Search Lighting Fixtures Online for Ideas and to Save Money

December 31, 2011 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

Most internet web sites that offer lighting fixtures are reputable vendors, and will provide you superior customer service regardless of what lighting product you are looking for. Since lighting fixtures are a must-have item for any home, they provide a very useful function and also can bring a stylish touch to your room’s scheme. Buying lighting fixtures for a new home or even if you are just updating your existing kitchen lighting or bathroom lighting, it can be a time consuming process. You should consider what will work best, shape, installation, and color, as well as the size.

Shopping online is a great idea because many local lighting stores, although convenient, sometimes cannot offer you enough options. You may, in fact, be looking for a particular manufacturer such as progress lighting or discount lighting, and they simply may not have what are looking for.

Internet web sites have thousands of lighting fixtures available for you to browse through 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Here are a few tips for you to remember about buying lighting fixtures online. Visit dozens of web sites if you have to and compare options, styles and shapes, and print out all the possible choices. Read the fixture descriptions and go over its measurements. Many merchants have toll-free lines and will help you decide on the fixture or even refer you to someone in your local area. Use search engines to compare prices and availability and shipping fees, and remember to understand each vendor’s return policy completely before purchasing online. Remember to buy from only reputable vendors and open your lighting fixtures shipment as soon is you receive it. Keep all packing materials in case it needs to be returned. Ensure that everything is in good condition, and that you have all the parts and nothing is bent or broken.

Curtains - Window Dressing

December 29, 2011 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

Why just hang curtains when I can install a “window dressing?” Have you looked at all the ways you can dress up a window lately?

I’ve had the same old tired curtains hanging in my house for 20 years now. I decided that this year I’m going to change the look of every room in my house, one at a time, starting with changing all my curtains! You’d be amazed how much of a difference that can make. Changes the whole room. Curtains have an effect on how much light comes into the room, for one thing. You can darken the bedroom with darker, thicker curtains and brighten the living room with white sheer curtains.

I had to get a new vocabulary going for this project, too. It helped to know what I was talking about when I went shopping. One great resource I found on the web was at CountryCurtains.com They’ve got information on measuring, fabrics, curtain styles and installation. There are also some articles on decorating there. I particularly read the link at the bottom called “Learn About Curtains.” I’d always wondered what some of those styles were called. There’s a whole list of curtain styles from A to Z. Read about balloon curtains to valances.

I also looked for sites with pictures. You can talk about valances all day long, but until I see a picture of it, I have no idea what it’s going to look like on my window. I’m no seamstress, but there were lots of pictures on PateMeadows.com because they’re selling curtain patterns so you can make your own. They have a great photo gallery that will give you more new ideas than you can imagine.

If you don’t see what you like, keep looking. You might like the shape of some curtains, but not the fabric they’re pictured in. Don’t worry. Someplace else will have a similar design in a fabric you will like. Have fun!

Drywall How To Quickly Fix The Holes From Last Night’s Party!

December 28, 2011 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

Drywall, otherwise known as gypsum wallboard, has replaced plaster as the most common wall surface in American homes. It is used as a backing for wall treatments such as wallpaper, fabric, tile and wood paneling. Or it can simply be painted. Drywall has the virtue of being easy and inexpensive to install.

Repair

To fix nails that have popped from drywall, make sure the panel is secured to the studs above and below the nail. Hammer the nail in and dimple the nail; drive in and dimple a nail of the same size right next to it to hold it in. Use joint compound to cover the nails. When that has dried, sand the area, prime, and paint.

To fix small holes in your dry wall, clean the holes and dampen them with a sponge. Fill the holes with spackling compound using a narrow putty knife. You can also use patching plaster to fill the holes. Let the spackling compound dry, prime, and paint to match the rest of the wall.

Some large holes in wallboard can be patched with precut, adhesive wallboard patches. You may need to widen the hole so the patch can fit. After you have popped it in, cover the seams and the patch with joint compound, according to label directions, then prime with a wallboard primer and paint the surface.

Pot Racks - Make a Statement In Your Kitchen

December 27, 2011 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

One of the most beautiful, versatile and efficient accessories that you could incorporate into your kitchen is the pot rack. The addition of a custom pot rack brings style, grace and organization to your kitchen’s workspace, and makes a stylish, sophisticated statement that is unsurpassed by other accessories.

Available in as many styles and finishes that you can imagine, pot racks bring an organizational efficiency to your kitchen that, once experienced, is hard to live without. Just think about how efficient it would be if all of your favorite pots were hanging within your grasp and at eye level. There would be no more bending and searching for that one pot that always seems to get shoved to the back of the cabinet.

Not only are they efficient, pot racks enable you to display and protect your finest cookware. After the addition of a pot rack, your expensive cookware will no longer have to be banged and scraped around when you are hunting for that special pan. And you can show them off in a way that is truly beautiful and eye catching.

Not enough cabinet space? Think about how much cabinet space is wasted on your bulky pots and pans. If you could pull those out and organize them with a custom pot rack, you would be left with a large amount of empty, usable cabinet space.

So now that you are interested in what a pot rack could do for your kitchen, you may be wondering where to find high-quality pot racks at a great price. You might want to start by browsing the selection at two of the leading pot rack manufacturers: Enclume and Rogar.

Enclume is the premier manufacturer of pot racks, and offers the finest racks made by master craftsmen. Using traditional French metal-forming equipment and time-honored methods that have been used for centuries, Enclume’s craftsmen produce beautiful, durable works of art from high-carbon steel, hand selected eastern maple wood and heavy gauge grid work.
Enclume also boasts of more styles than any other pot manufacturer. You can choose from finishes such as hammered steel with distressed patina, chrome, brass, copper plated and stainless steel.

Rogar is one of America’s oldest and most distinguished makers of pot racks. Established in 1906, Rogar has a huge variety of both wall and ceiling-mounted pot racks which come in various shapes and finishes. Their selection includes finishes of wood, stainless steel, solid copper and brass, hammered steel and baked on painted finishes in black, white, green, blue and red.

Depending on what style or design you choose, you can spend anywhere from $20 to over $1,000 for your new pot rack. The lower-end pot racks are usually wall mounted and will hold six to eight pots. High-end pot racks, on the other hand, are often, ceiling mounted, crafted from cold-rolled steel and then electroplated with your choice of three finishes: chrome, brass or copper.

As you can see the addition of a stylish, efficient pot rack to your kitchen is within reach, no matter how large or small your budget may be.

Furniture Tips The Wise Use of Color in Home Furnishings

December 26, 2011 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

Imagine life without color: you wouldn’t know night from day, stop from go, dead from alive. These and much more are the significance and relevance of color in our lives. In the same way, people react to colors. They are moved by it, and respond to it according to what emotions a particular color may evoke in the seer.

Colors can add personality to a room. Colors in furniture add life and create the mood or tone and character that you want in a particular room in the house. They also create visual illusions. Using particular colors in a room may create the illusion of a wider space, narrower space, brighter room, cozier room, and so much more.

A good interior designer, or a simple housewife has their decorating and furnishing ally in colors. Interior designers or housewives seeking to improve the looks of their homes should not be afraid to use color. They must understand that in decorating a room and in selecting furniture, and other home items, color is a very helpful tool.

However, there are also basic principles when dealing with colors. When using colors in a room for home furniture, there are basically two types: warm tones and cool tones.

What are the warm colors and cool colors and how do furniture in their tones affect the entire look of the room? Warm colors are based on yellows and yellowish colors, oranges, browns, greens that include veridian green and olive greens, burgundy red, red orange tones, dark browns, reddish copper and such colors. On the other hand, cool colors are based on blue, pink, purples, and light yellows, turquoise, cyan, light greens and such colors. Warm and cool tones or colors create different moods in a room. Warm tones create a severe, and heavy look. Warm colors also make the room smaller. However, designers love to use this color especially in decorating and selecting furniture for a library, a study, or a home office, and rooms of houses in areas with winter season because it creates a cozy atmosphere and usually compliments the warm color glow of fireplaces and hearths. They create an atmosphere conducive to thinking.

Cool colors or cool tones, on the other hand, are best to use in decorating rooms for the young. Cool colors create a light, breezy atmosphere. Cool colors can also make a room larger and more spacious, and less severe, more light-hearted and carefree. Cool colors are good conductors of light.

When re-decorating, repainting and refurnishing a room in your house, it is best to keep in mind the personality of the owner of the room. Keep furniture in the same color tone as with the whole room. It is also good to keep the furniture in the same color scheme so as to create a unified look for the whole room except maybe for a few two or three major centerpiece room items that will give a slight twist and variety to the place.

When it comes selecting new furniture and refurnishing your home, you don’t need to own an interior designer’s degree and you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to figure out what colors to use. All you need to know are the room owner’s personality to keep the look consistent, a list of warm and cool colors, and a good furniture shop that holds more furniture colors and furniture designs than there is on the rainbow.

Jewelry Armoire Buyers Guide

December 25, 2011 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

It is more than likely that you have accumulated many jewelry boxes through the years. These individual boxes are taking up space in drawers and on top of chests and dressers. Sorting through these boxes to find a certain necklace, bracelet, or pair of earrings to wear is taking far too much time. A jewelry armoire provides an attractive and practical solution for organizing your jewelry collection.

There are several things to consider before purchasing a jewelry armoire. Jewelry armoires and jewelry chests come in different shapes and sizes, but each one should have a number of divided felt-lined drawers for rings, earrings, and pins, hooks for necklaces and bracelets, easy-to-open doors, and top and side mirrors for easy viewing. In addition, many jewelry chests have separate compartments for lingerie or accessories that you may find useful.

Jewelry armoires are more than a place to keep your valuables, they are beautiful additions to bedroom furniture. The finish of a jewelry armoire should match your bedroom furniture in style and finish. Jewelry armoires come in a variety of antique and traditional finishes, such as cherry, oak, pine, maple, birch, and mahogany. Some jewelry chests are hand painted with floral designs or carved, some are simple in design and others are more ornate. Unfinished armoires are available as well. The selection of a jewelry armoire is ultimately a personal choice, but it should blend in nicely with the overall interior d

Flooring Tips You Must Know

December 24, 2011 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

Buying a new floor can be a frustrating and confusing process. Here’s a list of things to keep in mind before heading out to purchase your new floor.

1. Take note of the room layout.

-Draw an outline of the room or rooms. Indicate where the entrances are placed.

-Measure the room carefully and accurately with a measuring tape. Write down the width and length of a room. Remember to include closets and other areas that need the new flooring. Smaller print patterns can make the room seem a lot bigger.

-Take into account adjoining rooms and the flooring on those rooms.

-Make a note in which direction the room is facing and if there is a sliding door. Determine how much natural light enters the room. You might want to consider a laminated floor, ceramic tile or porcelain tile.

-Bring along swatches of fabrics from your furniture, curtains and wallpaper. These will help you decide on the color and style of your flooring.

2. Answer these questions to help you out in selecting the right floor for your room:

-How much foot traffic does the room get in any given day? The number of people passing or using the room would indicate the level of wear and tear the room would take. This would help you in deciding the type of flooring to get. A room with a high volume of traffic needs more durable flooring.

-What is the main function of the room? A room used mainly for leisurely activities will have less wear and tear. Delicate flooring materials can be chosen in this case.

-How many pets do you have? Pets tend to abuse the surroundings they are in, floorings maybe damage from scratching.

-How many kids do you have in the house? All the roughhousing and playing that the kids do tend to abuse the flooring. The more kids you have in the house, the more abuse your flooring will get.

-What color do you want? Remember that lighter colors make rooms seem bigger.

-How long do you want the flooring to last? We would of course like the flooring to last forever but wear and tear damages the flooring.

Eventually, it will need to be replaced or you may want to simply change the look of the room after a certain period of time.

3. How much is the flooring going to cost?

-Are the subfloor preparation part of the quoted price?

-Is the quoted price inclusive of the installation or is that a separate fee? This is a budgeting concern, you would want to know the actual amount you’re going to spend.

-Is the removal of pre-existing flooring included in the quoted price.

-Is the quoted price inclusive of the moving of all appliances and furniture in the room.

-Are all the necessary materials included in the quoted price? You wouldn’t want to find out during the installation that some materials are not included and that you still need to purchase more materials. That could be extremely annoying and frustrating.

4. Questions to ask the installers and the store:

-Are the installers independent, or are they store employees?

-Whose insurance will pay for installation errors?

-Are all of the materials recommended by the manufacturer so warranty will not be voided?

-Discuss with the salesperson the warranty information of the manufacturer. Keep a copy of the warranty.

-Discuss the maintenance procedure and keep a copy of the manual or brochure.

-Have everything documented including the diagram of the installation. Also, the amount of flooring needed in the room

-Ask who will be responsible for the removal of fixed features in the room, e.g. toilet.

-Always check the website of the store, if any, to give you an idea of the store. Take note of the affiliations to groups or other organizations.

It would be best to email the store in advance to have some questions answered before going there. It saves a lot of time.

-Have all the product information documented. The document should include the name of the manufacturer, product name, color, style and the installation procedure.

Change The Style Of Your Interior With A Minimum Of Costs

December 22, 2011 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

The style of your interior depends for a great part on the decoration on the walls. Using the right picture on the right place can make your room look bigger. I experienced this for myself when I came in this business. I do sell reproduction paintings, you know.

Actually, I came in the reproduction painting business because I was amazed about what one painting can do to your living room. Let me explain. I had an old painting on my wall that looked very nice. But, there was something missing. I decided that I had to replace it. I always wanted a Van Gogh, but I knew I would never be able to buy one.

After a few months I discovered that there was a business that did just what I was looking for. I bought a reproduction painting from them, and this is the way my own business started. I was overwhelmed by the artistic talent of the reproductionist who captured the realistic impressionism of Van Gogh. So I decided to work together with these guys.

I figured out they use the same techniques the old masters used. With several painters who are specialized in one artist, and only reproduce work of that artist. There are specialists of Van Gogh, Monet, Renoir, Gauguin and a lot more impressionists.

Since I started this business I feel like helping other people realize there dream. They are affordable for everyone. You can already buy a “real” Van Gogh for as less as 120 USD. This is not too much for a beautiful lasting post-impressionistic piece of artwork. If you are searching for this kind of timeless house warming painting, go and check out my website at http://www.repropaint.com
