How To Bring Your Living Room To Life

June 30, 2009 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

Do you like what you have but dont like your room? Heres the solution: pull your rooms together so they look finished and professionally decorated by following these techniques to add the wow to your rooms! (Ive used them in hundreds of homes!).

1. Paint the walls and ceiling a rich, warm neutral color or one of the colors in your rooms fabrics. Your furnishings will immediately look more at home. I call it marrying your architecture to your furnishings.

2. Next, move your seating away from the walls and group it around a fireplace, a view window or any logical focal point.

3. Now, add a generous area rug to accent and unify your entire seating area.

4. Fill any empty looking corners with large plants and soft up-lights. Add a decorative, folding screen for a fuller look.

5. Place your lamps to evenly and softly light your seating area. Use additional lighting to accent your artwork, collections and accessories.

6. Create a focal point on the coffee table by elevating one of your favorite accessories on a stack of several books (sans covers). This will give your treasure more presence. Then add a low, full green plant or a blooming orchid and a couple of large, glowing candles. If you like a fuller look, use a decorative tray or runner underneath.

7. Lastly, be sure to decorate the top half of your room (from the furniture up), with tall plants, window treatments, artwork and that wall color. The room will feel considerably larger, more interesting and most importantly finished!

These few changes will make all the difference so you can start enjoying living in a beautiful home!

Home Made Kitchen Appliance Cleaners

June 30, 2009 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

Growing up in the 60’s with my mom, bless her heart had cleaning solutions for everything from the kitchen appliance to the bathrooms floors. Hardly a penny was spent unless it was for shopping for the ingredients for salad and baking supplies which were all used for cleaning as well.

She even went as far as making her own hair conditioner, and we each got a jar of it. When I started getting complaints from my school friends that I smelled like a Caesar salad I knew my mom had gone to far.

The best cleaning solution for the kitchen appliance was her cider vinegar and water solution. Fill half an old spray bottle with cider vinegar and the other half with water. It worked like magic on all our appliances, including glass, floors and basically everything.

We kept all the newspapers and they were used for cleaning rags for anything that was glass. Old tee shirt and my brother’s underwear were also used. You can imagine how my brother felt when his buddies would come and visit and his underwear was being used on my father’s car windows.

We’ll memories can last a life time so does my mom’s old fashion cleaning solutions, Even though today’s appliances have advanced in technology, the cider vinegar remedy still will work wonders in keeping them shiny and clean.

The new refrigerators that features ice makers and water tap built in as well as a built in 15 inch TV with web surfing is set up for easy cleaning and makers of these appliances recommend using a mild cleaner.

New sleek cook tops have special cleansers, but if you have nothing else there is no harm in using a combination of water and cider vinegar sprayed gently on the burner.

Gas ranges using burner grids to suspend cook ware over the heat, tend to have spills. The best way to clean this is using a mild cleaner such as the cider vinegar solution during cooking so if the cleaning solution does get into the food its harmless.

One of the reasons for this recommendation is that is less harmful to taste cider vinegar than say bleach.

Check out the cleaning companies such as Fuller Brush and makers of Windex for cleaning your kitchen appliance. They have incorporated cider vinegar into their products.

Happy Cleaning

Product is excellent for temporary room darkening (or even more permanent if you are careful about installing and perhaps enhancing with minimal window treatment.) However, please be warned about the packaging. Each of 5 shades came in its own box that was HUGE and loaded with paper. Completely unnecessary as all five could have fit in ONE box 1/3 of the size. It took me 45 minutes to unpack and get rid of all the packaging so I could leave the house (the five boxes completely blocked my entryway.) I was LIVID and will NEVER order these from Amazon again. I do want more and will go through another retailer. This is obviously the work of a disgruntled or zero-IQ employee that is trying to ruin Amazon’s otherwise great track record. I had read another review mentioning this, but trust me NOTHing can prepare you for the insanity of this packaging. And, to make matters worse, one of the shades was bent! Completely ridiculous. Bottom line: buy these, but NOT FROM AMAZON

I have allergies and have used Redi Shades for over 4 years, have used the cordless and the ones with the cord. I like the cordless best. The are easy to cut and easy to hang.

On windows that get usage and because I live in the south, (Hot here) sometimes the tape at the top of the blinds gradually come loose, so I just take a small piece of duct tape and place on center and corners when I first put up, then it doesn’t make any difference how hot it gets, it won’t come loose.

They are wonderful temporary shades, gives your room a nice look from the outside and you can replace as often as the dust requires. I would never go back to using regular blinds after using Redi Shades. In addition, the price is very reasonable.

Try them, you will not be disappointed.

If you are wanting to truly darken your room, take a white garbage bag and tape it across your window (so it looks okay from the outside). Cover with Expensive Dark Green Garbage bags (they are darker than cheap) (hang long across, use tape if in apartment or use tacks if in your own place to secure them. Then so your room looks nice, hang your room darkening Redi Shade.

You room will be really dark. My husband said our bedroom is like a cave. LOL.

I love them!

I have used this in my daughter’s room and in my living room for the past two summers and it makes a huge difference on the power bill.

The late afternoon sun & 20′ ceilings in my living room make it more like an oven than a living area. I put these shades underneath the mini blnds for 1/2 of the windows in the room. Before I used these my AC couldn’t keep up to keep the house at 73 degrees. It would always get up to 77 or 78. With these on though, it is so cool & comfortable.

What’s even greater is that I can take them down once summer is over and put them back up the following year.

They are very EASY to install - less than 10 minutes.

***I highly recommend that you clean the area that the adhesive strip will stick to with alcohol before you hang these. A clean area helps the adhesiveness last longer.

These are inexpensive, easy to install, and they reduce the heat in my living room when used with my darker damask curtains which cooked the room when used alone. These don’t block the sunlight, they just reduce the light entering; they also are not high quality permanent-type blinds, I just use them in the summer to reduce interior heat.
I ordered 2 and Amazon sent each of them in its own 3 1/2′x2′x2′ box, the dimension of the blind is about 3′x2"x2". Lots of wasted space and packing material.

Review date : 2008-05-14
Easy to trim down to size. Easy to use and look great. I’m thinking of buying more but the HUGE BOX each shade comes in is ridiculous. THey should ship them together in one box.

Living Room Decorating! Read This Before You Start Out

June 28, 2009 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

When it comes to living room decorating there are many styles one can choose from. There are hundreds, if not thousands of options in terms of carpet alone. Maybe you want to go with hardwood, or be adventurous, and try stained concrete. Whatever the case, each element of a living room goes into the overall living room decorating plan that is set in motion when one moves into a home, or renovates his, or her living room.

The best way to implement a living room decorating concept is to research the purpose of the room. The purpose of your living room is for most a place of sanctuary, where one can kick back in the recliner, with a cold beverage, and enjoy a ball game, or movie. For others the living room can be a virtual office, in the days of wireless internet, and laptop computers, living room decorating must consider these things. Whatever the use is for your living room, try locating it before you do any living room decorating, in order to fully adorn the room with functional decorations.

A function decoration is one that serves a purpose beyond accenting a rooms looks. Some living room decorating experts utilize this on a daily basis. In fact, many interior decorators make this the fundamental premise behind all their work. A living room decorating plan that implements at least some functional elements will greatly assist those enjoying the room on a regular basis.

The most common functional elements found when living room decorating is occurring are old wood tables being used as desks, a piece of a sail boat converted into a coffee table, or even a fancy piece of art, that happens to be a clock. These are your common, run of the mill functional design elements. There are plenty of others worth a try as well.

One can utilize all types of materials to make functional design elements. For my living room I wanted an industrial look, so I went with metal as my core material. I was able to have a metal breakfast bar created for less than three thousand dollars. The bar is covered with a custom piece of glass, and adds a modern pop to any living room.

Your challenge is to find what you like to do in a living room, and try to incorporate it into your design. Once you do this, your living room will not only be beautiful, but also functional.
