How To Bring Your Living Room To Life

April 27, 2009 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

Do you like what you have but dont like your room? Heres the solution: pull your rooms together so they look finished and professionally decorated by following these techniques to add the wow to your rooms! (Ive used them in hundreds of homes!).

1. Paint the walls and ceiling a rich, warm neutral color or one of the colors in your rooms fabrics. Your furnishings will immediately look more at home. I call it marrying your architecture to your furnishings.

2. Next, move your seating away from the walls and group it around a fireplace, a view window or any logical focal point.

3. Now, add a generous area rug to accent and unify your entire seating area.

4. Fill any empty looking corners with large plants and soft up-lights. Add a decorative, folding screen for a fuller look.

5. Place your lamps to evenly and softly light your seating area. Use additional lighting to accent your artwork, collections and accessories.

6. Create a focal point on the coffee table by elevating one of your favorite accessories on a stack of several books (sans covers). This will give your treasure more presence. Then add a low, full green plant or a blooming orchid and a couple of large, glowing candles. If you like a fuller look, use a decorative tray or runner underneath.

7. Lastly, be sure to decorate the top half of your room (from the furniture up), with tall plants, window treatments, artwork and that wall color. The room will feel considerably larger, more interesting and most importantly finished!

These few changes will make all the difference so you can start enjoying living in a beautiful home!

I recently purchased two of these sets and absolutely love them. I personally have no problem with the "smell". It is not strong at all and goes away quickly. I have them lined up at the foot of my bed. The chocolate color is really pretty! I highly recommend these ottomans!

Review date : 2008-07-12
As with many reviews, I was pleased with this item. Unfortunately I am one of the unlucky ones that have the bad smell. After a week and a runny nose, I have put it outside to "air out". I think it might be the chemicals used in the tanning process.

After reading everyone’s review and preparing myself for the "awful" smell of this ottoman, I was pleasantly surprised to have no smell. I mean, I live in Hawaii so all the houses are opened up so the smell may not linger as long. I did put a dryer sheet in the ottoman for a few days just to rid any smell that might get in the blankets I stuffed in it. You can tell the product isn’t top quality leather but for this price I am excited to have gotten it. I also have a 18month old son who loves the "baby" ottoman. The smaller ottoman is very little, small enough for my son to carry around, but it still a great buy. I’ve already recommended this to a few friends!

Review date : 2008-07-01
I’d looked high and low for a decent 2 piece ottoman set for my computer/gaming room. I had actually seen this very same set at a few retail stores for nearly double the costs.

After testing it, trying it out, moving it about, and putting some fair weight on it I can say that it’s pretty damned high quality craftsmenship.

This little handy duo is going to work great for me. The smaller for my feet, the larger for storage and a side table. Great deal.

Review date : 2008-06-24
an excellent buy at the price. I’ve seen some ottomans of a similar style for more than twice the price and I can see why that is - the build quality is better in the higher priced units. But seriously, these ottomans are damn good value and look the part - I’ll take 80% of the quality for less than 50% of the price. Mine were delivered quickly, and didn’t have any funny smell.

Finding Lodge Decor to Complete Your Rustic Home Getaway

April 27, 2009 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

You have decided to buy or build a lodge as an escape from your tough, hectic and sometimes humdrum life in the city or town. You are going to build to a high standard, even if you can only spend weekends and vacations there. However, it is not only the outside of your country retreat you want to look good, and fitting well into the rustic surroundings. You want the decor to be just right too.

When you return home to your lodge or cabin after a day’s hiking, fishing or hunting, or even a combination of all three, you want to be able to relax in great surroundings that serve to remind you of where you are, not of the city, traffic fumes and fast pace lifestyle.

But, you are based in the city, where all the furniture shops sell mostly modern furnishings intended for an ultra modern city apartment or house. When you visit your new lodge after it has been finished, there’s not a town for many miles, let alone a good quality furniture shop.

So, where do you start looking for your lodge decor, to give your new second home that special rustic appeal to contrast with the city from which you seek an escape?

Here are a few suggestions you may find helpful:

1. Don’t Give Up On The Local Stores

If the area where you are having your lodge or country home built is not known very well by you, there is a chance you will miss some possible sources of rustic style decor. This is especially so if there are a lot of weekend homes and hunting lodges in the area. You may not have the more noticeable furniture stores in nearby towns and villages, but there may be some real gems not so far away.

In country areas, you may find little specialist furniture stores hidden away in side streets in nearby towns. You could find a supplier way out of town, nearer to your lodge, maybe running a second business alongside their farming, or even hunting or fishing business.

If you make a point, when visiting the lodge to check building progress, to take a different diversion each time to explore the local population centers, you may stumble across some places to buy furniture and other decor. Lunch in different places, and ask around; ask the builders working on your lodge. If you are using a local architect, they may have a good idea of sources of lodge decor that are local. Of course, you could find a local interior designer, who will have everything at their fingertips.

It is probably best to start looking for furniture and furnishings several months before you will be ready to move in, that way you will get plenty of ideas together and find the best sources to meet your needs and desires.

2. Check Out Local Specialists

Instead of looking for furniture stores per se, consider the materials you would like to use in the decoration and furnishing of the finished lodge.

For example, wood is a great material for a rustic look. There may be a local carpenter, working on his own, who custom makes rustic furniture. Another place to check would be a timber merchant; ask if any of their regular customers make wooden furniture and other decor items.

Wrought iron is another super material for a good rustic look, which in the right hands can be transformed into artistic and long lasting decor, both for the lodge and the lodge garden. Try to find out if there is an iron forge in the locality. If horse riding is popular I (and it is in most country areas) you may be lucky to find a blacksmith who also has a sideline making wrought iron decor.

The more people you ask in related business such as timber and ironworks, the more likely it is you can unearth a local specialist who can create something unique for you, and avoid all the middlemen and transport costs.

A main source of lodge decor these days is the internet; but there is no need to suggest you search online too. If you are reading this, then that is what you are doing already. Good luck, and have great fun fitting out your new lodge, cabin or other country home.

This finding lodge decor article was written by Roy Thomsitt, owner author of the Gardens and Decor website, where you will find information on rustic lodge furniture and other decor for a country home, lodge or cabin.

Closet Organizing Tips Systems for Conquering Closet Clutter

April 26, 2009 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

Closet organizing indicates that you value the simple home improvement of added closet space. Below you’ll find simple ideas to get your closets organized:

A good suggestion for starters is to plan your closet with hanging rods nearest the outside walls. In most cases, this will give you the optimum access to shelves and drawer spaces.

For reach-in closets with double-folding doors, it’s often better to put the drawers in the center where they’re more easily accessible. For a closet with sliding doors, place the drawers on either end of the closet.
Wardrobe Inventory.

Separate your closet into these categories:

– What you currently wear
— What you’ve worn only a few times in the last 12 months
— What hasn’t even been considered in more than a year

You might want to bag and store clothing from the second category above, and consider donating the things from third. Numerous charities appreciate clothing donations and will even pick them up from your home.

When storing out-of-season items, remember to always clean the items first and store all boxes in a dry place.

Assess the cloths you want to keep in your closet. Think about how much drawer space, hanging and shelf storage you’ll need before you begin shopping for closet organizer kits and design ideas.

Do you share a walk-in closet with a spouse? Make the right side for one person’s wardrobe, and the left side for the other. If you have enough space, the back wall can be shared.

One of the most trendy closet designs of modern home improvement uses drawers or baskets with long verticals of 24″ shelves in the center of the side walls, with hanging space on either side.

If you don’t have enough room for such a layout on each side of the closet, but you’d still like shelves, drawers, shoe storage or baskets, plan on using the side walls for hanging space and put a drawer unit on the back wall.

General Closet Organization tips:

Double hanging space of your closet by adding a second rod at 40″ from the ground and adjusting the upper rod to 80″.

Use your closet doors to create more space by adding over-the-door racks. This space can be used for cap racks, shoe storage, valets, towel racks or general purpose hooks.

To avoid wrinkling, avoid hanging garments too close together.

Use specific hangers in your closet to gain space and store items, like Multiple skirt hangers, multiple slack hangers, belt, scarf, and tie hangers.

To retain the original shape of your sweaters and eliminate hanger marks, it’s usually good to fold them instead of hanging them. New hangers are on the market however, with rounded edges to prevent hanger marks.

As you use up closet space, think about adding garment racks. These come with wheels for easy movement, and many come with covers.

Walk-in closets can be thought of as a series of “reach-ins”. Measure each wall separately and plan your storage wall by wall. Use corner shelving to craft the most of the space you have.

Institute just a few of these closet organizing tips and unleash the full joy of your “intimate space”. You’ll also see that this is one of the simplest forms of home improvement you can undertake.

Mattress Reviews Provide Valuable Purchasing Tips For Free

April 25, 2009 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

Although mattress reviews are unable to make you decide on a specific brand or model of mattress, they sure can make it a great deal easier for you to decide which type of mattress would be best suited for you. We are all built differently, and all of us possess the ability to make decisions based on our need and personal preference, but buying a mattress is an important purchase to make, so the added help of mattress reviews can be quite meaningful. Mattress reviews provide a way to find and compare tons of mattress products, base on credibility, evaluation and identifying a variety of brands and models. There are lots to choose from, and mattress reviews can help you narrow down your search, saving you time and potentially saving you the trouble of making a purchase you may regret, which can prevent you from spending a large sum of money on a product you won’t appreciate.

Mattress reviews serve as an efficient buyers’ guide for those considering making a purchase, but don’t know where to start in order to make a smart and wise choice. They provide information and reports that can be very useful, such as price comparison charts among a choice of brands and a variety of models, a list of advantages as well as disadvantages based on the experience of mattress enthusiasts and experts. Other things you can find out with mattress reviews often include a disection, or anatomy of certain mattress types. What this can do for you, is provide you with insight as to the construction of a mattress and what to expect with that type of mattress.

For example, a mattress constructed of latex or memory foam might have better anti dustmite and anti-microbial properties, which may be very benificial to people suffering from allergies or asthma. Mattress reviews will also classify mattresses into types, helping you decide which type will be best suited for you. Mattress types include conventional or traditional inner spring mattress, air mattresses, waterbed mattresses and a variety of foam mattresses. Each of these are much different from one another, and vary a great deal in quality convenience and price. Mattress reviews are there to help you through this deciding process. As we stated earlier, there is no way mattress reviews can make the choice for you, but it’s a great place to start, and eventually help point you in the right direction. After consulting a few mattress reviews, we recommend you make your final purchasing decision by visiting a mattress specialist and trying numerous mattresses out to get a feel for what different types you prefer.
