How To Bring Your Living Room To Life

April 30, 2009 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

Do you like what you have but dont like your room? Heres the solution: pull your rooms together so they look finished and professionally decorated by following these techniques to add the wow to your rooms! (Ive used them in hundreds of homes!).

1. Paint the walls and ceiling a rich, warm neutral color or one of the colors in your rooms fabrics. Your furnishings will immediately look more at home. I call it marrying your architecture to your furnishings.

2. Next, move your seating away from the walls and group it around a fireplace, a view window or any logical focal point.

3. Now, add a generous area rug to accent and unify your entire seating area.

4. Fill any empty looking corners with large plants and soft up-lights. Add a decorative, folding screen for a fuller look.

5. Place your lamps to evenly and softly light your seating area. Use additional lighting to accent your artwork, collections and accessories.

6. Create a focal point on the coffee table by elevating one of your favorite accessories on a stack of several books (sans covers). This will give your treasure more presence. Then add a low, full green plant or a blooming orchid and a couple of large, glowing candles. If you like a fuller look, use a decorative tray or runner underneath.

7. Lastly, be sure to decorate the top half of your room (from the furniture up), with tall plants, window treatments, artwork and that wall color. The room will feel considerably larger, more interesting and most importantly finished!

These few changes will make all the difference so you can start enjoying living in a beautiful home!

Product Description

If you spend long hours on hard concrete, wood or tile floors you know how tired your feet, legs and back are at the end of the day. Those hard, non-forgiving surfaces force your skeletal structure–bones, joints and muscles–to absorb all the punishment of repetitive standing, stepping, moving and bending. We placed these unique pads in our warehouse over the concrete floor in areas where we stand for long periods–like the area where we prepare customer orders for shipment. WHAT a difference! We’ve noticed a substantial increase in the amount of time we’re able to stand on concrete without feeling like we just ran 10 miles. Tabbed edges fit together firmly and stay together even with the twisting movement of foot traffic. They’ve been extremely durable and resistant to cuts and tears when heavy metal objects were dropped on them. Great for garage, workshop, laundry, play room, workout room. Super-easy to clean: just pick up and shake or hose off with water; can be glued for permanent installation. One set includes four 2-foot square, 3/8-thick pads to cover 16 square feet in square, lengthwise or any way you need to fit your area. I was a bit concerned at first because I was going to use this flooring over carpet, but it works great. After buying some double sided carpet tape, it doesn’t slide and adds great absorbency for my aerobic workouts.

mdse received quickly after order — seems to work quite well at this point — time will tell

Grow Organic Vegetables

April 30, 2009 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

There are more reasons than ever why anybody with access to a few square feet of the outdoors should grow their own organic vegetables.

You may be shocked at how much of the produce at your local supermarket has been genetically modified. Some estimates now put this at over 50%. While there is no strong evidence that genetically modified foods are immediately harmful to your health, there are no long term studies either. Do you want to take that risk?

Let’s take a look at pesticides and fertilizers. Farmers no longer use crop rotation or natural manures to improve soil fertility, so they are forced to use ever increasing amounts of chemicals to improve yields and multiple pesticides to protect the weakened plants. Pesticides penetrate deeply into the leaves of plants and pestiside residues remain even after you have scrubbed them.

To quote from The Environmental Protection Agency - “Pesticides are designed to kill pests. Many pesticides can also pose risks to people. The health effects of pesticides depend on the type of pesticide. Some, such as the organophosphates and carbamates, affect the nervous system. Others may irritate the skin or eyes. Some pesticides may be carcinogens. Others may affect the hormone or endocrine system in the body.”

Sure you can, and should, buy organic fruit and vegetables but have you seen the prices? Anybody with even a modest vegetable garden can grow healthy organic vegetables at much lower cost than those at the local supermarket. Not only can you grow them at much lower cost, but you can grow them one hundred percent better.

Even the long-keeping vegetables such as potatoes, onions and squash are noticeably tastier picked straight from the home vegetable garden; but when it comes to peas and corn and salad vegetables- well , there is absolutely nothing to compare with the home garden ones, gathered fresh, in the early slanting sunlight, still gemmed with dew, still crisp and tender and juicy, ready to carry every atom of savory quality and taste, without loss, to the dining table.

It is not in price or health alone that home gardening pays. There is another point. Agribusiness has to grow the things that give the biggest yield. They have to sacrifice quality and taste for quantity and long shelf life. You do not. The strawberries on the supermarket shelves may look bright and red and uniform but you will soon find they taste more like the cardboard of their containers when compared to a home grown variety picked straight from the vine.

And this brings us to what may be the most important reason you should garden. It is the cheapest, healthiest pleasure there is. Give me a sunny garden patch in the springtime, give me seeds to watch as they find the light, plants to tend as they take hold in the fine, loose, rich soil, give me succulent and tasty springtime salads. And when you have grown tired of the springtime, come back in summer to even the smallest garden, and you will find in it, every day, a new vista, new pleasures and, yes, new challenges.

Better food, better health, better living — all these the home vegetable garden offers you in abundance. So, turn off that computer, pull out some old clothes and find a spot to dig.

I bought this desk two weeks ago and have been very happy with it. It’s extremely strong and I expect it to be durable. The pieces are very heavy, I had to open the box on the patio and bring them in one by one to put the desk together. It was super easy to assemble, and it will be just as easy to move when necessary. I also bought the peninsula, and now have a very spacious desk top. I chose the wheat finish, and the veneer is beautiful and not reflected well in the photograph. I appreciate the eco-friendly principles behind the furniture construction, which you can learn more about on their website.

Shower Remodeling - Shower Doors and Curtains

April 28, 2009 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

One of the easiest shower remodeling projects is to upgrade existing shower curtain or doors. Installing a new shower curtain is a quite simple and can be accomplished by anybody. To further enhance the look of your bathroom you may also want to consider adding (or upgrading) shower doors.

Shower Curtains - Installing a shower rod and curtain is another simple DIY home repair project. If you do not currently have a shower curtain installed or if you are replacing the existing shower curtain rod measure the distance between the walls at the height where the rod will be placed. Home repair centers as well as a large number of departments stores will usually have quite a selection to choose from. Select a rod of the correct length along with your preferred style of shower curtain and curtain hangers (make sure they are the right size for your curtain rod!).

Typically the shower curtain rod will either provide brackets for you to install (if you have a laser level it will come in handy here), be spring loaded, or will telescope and tighten to the correct length. Install the rod level as per the instructions for the specific rod you have selected. Note: If the curtain hangers you have selected do not open, make sure to put them on the rod BEFORE installing it.

Shower Doors - Installing a shower door is a bit more involved project but still not too difficult for the average diy home repair handyman. The project again starts with measurements - measure both the top and bottom of the shower opening - depending on your tub/tiling, these measurements may not be the same so make sure you record both. Your bathroom, plumbing, or home superstore should have a selection of doors to choose from. They will typically range in price from around $60 to $200+ depending on the style you select.

While each specific door will have its own set of instructions, the basics will still be the same. You will be installing a set of side rails, a bottom guide/splash plate, and a top guide for the doors to hang on. Usually only the side rails will actually be fastened to the walls. As with many projects of this type, the actual installation is fairly simple once the preparation has been completed

Before starting the installation, make sure you have any special tools required. Usually, you will require only a drill (with ceramic tile bit if necessary), hacksaw with fine tooth blade, screwdrivers, tape measure, and caulk (usually clear silicon bathroom caulk). Pay close attention to your specific instructions and measure twice before cutting each piece to length. Also make sure to dry fit (no pun intended) the pieces before you start fastening these to the wall.

Once you have all of the pieces cut to length and all necessary pilot holes drilled the installation is usually quite simple. Attach the pieces in the order specified by your manual and make sure everything looks/works ok before you make it water tight by calking the inside gaps.

On average, this project should only take an hour or two of your time and can be accomplished with a minimum of difficulty. This is one shower remodeling project that is well worth the time. You will be suprised how much your bathroom appearance is improved by this simple change.
