I recently purchased two of these sets and absolutely love them. I personally have no problem with the "smell". It is not strong at all and goes away quickly. I have them lined up at the foot of my bed. The chocolate color is really pretty! I highly recommend these ottomans!

As with many reviews, I was pleased with this item. Unfortunately I am one of the unlucky ones that have the bad smell. After a week and a runny nose, I have put it outside to "air out". I think it might be the chemicals used in the tanning process.

After reading everyone’s review and preparing myself for the "awful" smell of this ottoman, I was pleasantly surprised to have no smell. I mean, I live in Hawaii so all the houses are opened up so the smell may not linger as long. I did put a dryer sheet in the ottoman for a few days just to rid any smell that might get in the blankets I stuffed in it. You can tell the product isn’t top quality leather but for this price I am excited to have gotten it. I also have a 18month old son who loves the "baby" ottoman. The smaller ottoman is very little, small enough for my son to carry around, but it still a great buy. I’ve already recommended this to a few friends!

I’d looked high and low for a decent 2 piece ottoman set for my computer/gaming room. I had actually seen this very same set at a few retail stores for nearly double the costs.

After testing it, trying it out, moving it about, and putting some fair weight on it I can say that it’s pretty damned high quality craftsmenship.

This little handy duo is going to work great for me. The smaller for my feet, the larger for storage and a side table. Great deal.

Review date : 2008-06-24
an excellent buy at the price. I’ve seen some ottomans of a similar style for more than twice the price and I can see why that is - the build quality is better in the higher priced units. But seriously, these ottomans are damn good value and look the part - I’ll take 80% of the quality for less than 50% of the price. Mine were delivered quickly, and didn’t have any funny smell.

Do you like what you have but dont like your room? Heres the solution: pull your rooms together so they look finished and professionally decorated by following these techniques to add the wow to your rooms! (Ive used them in hundreds of homes!).

1. Paint the walls and ceiling a rich, warm neutral color or one of the colors in your rooms fabrics. Your furnishings will immediately look more at home. I call it marrying your architecture to your furnishings.

2. Next, move your seating away from the walls and group it around a fireplace, a view window or any logical focal point.

3. Now, add a generous area rug to accent and unify your entire seating area.

4. Fill any empty looking corners with large plants and soft up-lights. Add a decorative, folding screen for a fuller look.

5. Place your lamps to evenly and softly light your seating area. Use additional lighting to accent your artwork, collections and accessories.

6. Create a focal point on the coffee table by elevating one of your favorite accessories on a stack of several books (sans covers). This will give your treasure more presence. Then add a low, full green plant or a blooming orchid and a couple of large, glowing candles. If you like a fuller look, use a decorative tray or runner underneath.

7. Lastly, be sure to decorate the top half of your room (from the furniture up), with tall plants, window treatments, artwork and that wall color. The room will feel considerably larger, more interesting and most importantly finished!

15 Futon Mattress Tips

March 25, 2009 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

A futon mattress is a great choice. After all its 100% pure cotton which means is allergy and environmentally friendly. Cotton has natural ventilation qualities and your futon will also form to your body providing support. But before you buy here are 15 futon mattress tips.

1. Life Expectancy - expect your futon to last about 7 years. It will last about the same length of time as a traditional mattress.

2. Care - roll and turn at least once a month.

3. Try Before You Buy - as with any traditional mattress you need to try before you buy. Relax, enjoy, and find the thickness that’s right for you.

4. Protection - your mattress is going to need a cover. If it’s going to be in a child’s room or somewhere where there’s a risk of accidents then use a vinyl cover underneath the cover. You can also use a mattress pad to absorb dirt and sweat.

5. Flip It - flip and rotate your mattress at least once a month. This ensures even wear. If you have one of those mattresses you can’t flip, then at least be sure to rotate it.

6. Handles - don’t use the handles to pick up the mattress. They are only designed for sliding the mattress around slightly.

7. Don’t Jump - the kids might think jumping on the bed is fun but it can damage the futon mattress so don’t allow it. If they want to jump buy them a trampoline.

8. Refresh - use baking soda to freshen your mattress. Sprinkle, let it sit for a day and then vacuum off.

9. Warranty - find out what the frame warranty is. It should be at least 5 years.

10. Thickness - your mattress should be a minimum of 6 inches if you are going to use your futon as a mattress.

11. Material - your futon should be made of cotton, cotton and foam, or cotton polyester. Cotton and foam weighs less than other combinations and it doesn’t sag.

12. Inter spring - An inter spring mattress is made of a spring unit that has a layer of foam and cotton on each side. A good choice for additional firmness.

13. Frame Type - you can choose between a bi-fold or tri-fold frame. A bi-fold folds once and uses the mattress length as the couch for more seating. The tri-fold folds twice and uses the width of the mattress for the couch.

14. Wood - pine is the most affordable and durable wood option for the frame. There are also metal frames that are fairly reasonable in price.

15. Mattress Size - a King measures 76 x 80 inches, a queen is 60 x 80 inches, a double is 54 x 75 inches, and a single is 39 x 75 inches.

A futon mattress is a great investment offering you affordability, durability, and comfort. It’s a great choice for a master bedroom or a guest room. These 15 futon mattress tips will help you choose the correct mattress for your needs. So are you ready to start shopping?

DIY Plumbing Repair - You Have Homeowners Insurance, Use It

March 24, 2009 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

Since most home owners insurance policies don’t cover the cost of
repairs few people think to check with them when plumbing problems
occur. Although they may not cover the repair, they will usually cover the value of damaged property including cleaning up after the repair. The scope of this type of project is typically not a diy plumbing repair project so you will want to find any way you can to help pay for it.

A few years ago I had the misfortune of finding water seeping through a wall in my basement one spring. First this was blamed on a very wet season. Next, when dry weather came around and the leak was still there a basement waterproofing contractor was called in. It was no suprise when this contractor informed me that I had ground water and needed their expensive services. Since the company had a vested interest in me believing this they did not seem to feel the need to offer any other possible explanation. Based on the fact that the remaining 95% of the basement walls had no such problem a third opinion was in order.

Based on the proximity of the leak to the primary kitchen drain pipes a third contractor was called. After a short examination, the plumbing contractor was able to determine that the kitchen drain pipe was leaking (not where we could access it easily of course but behind a cinder block wall under a concrete slab).

The plumbing contractor then made an unexpected suggestion - call my insurance company before starting the repair. That was when he explained that the company would not pay for the repair, but they would pay for the cost of jack hammering up my living room, hall, and/or office floor to find the leak and cleaning up afterwards. He was also able to suggest an alternative solution that was cleaner and much less expensive and present it to the insurance company.

Two repair scenarios were proposed.

The first project would involved having the plumbing contractor find the leak under the living room slab, repair the drain pipe, and then replace the concrete and flooring to clean up after the project. As would be expected the estimate for this repair was on the high side ($4000+ by the time all the cleanup work would have been completed).

The second repair was considerably less intrusive - they would cap off the existing drain line (kitchen only) and re-route it through the joist’s in the basement and re-connect it to the main line outside the house. The only “heavy” work in this proposal was cutting a 6 inch hole in the exterior wall and digging a trench to run the new pipe to be reconnected. The remainder of the work amounted to a fairly simple plumbing repair. The net cost for this repair was about half the first proposal

With both of these proposals on hand, the insurance company had no problem in justifying payment for the FULL SECOND OPTION (less deductable of course). The insurance company saved money, the home owner saved money, and the repair was accomplished within 2 days with a minimum of cleanup required.

This entire project demonstrated the value of a good plumbing contractor. They were able to quickly identify the problem, propose multiple solutions, and help justify the payment by the insurance company.

This repair also demonstrated the value of a insurance company. The insurance company was willing to accept and pay for an alternative solution as well as inform the home owner of all the valid expenses that should be recorded for reimbursement.

When I bought this cart, it did not say unfinished in the title. Apparently, my e-mail changed their deceptive advertising. First of all, the company does not stand behind their product. Our product came with a broken board. Well, this product came while we were on vacation and after the shock of finding out that it was unfinished and trying to figure out how to finish it, we did not inspect everything for a couple of weeks. The company only gives you 24 hours to inspect the product and let them know if anything is broken. However, they don’t tell you this in any of the packaging. So, if we want to get a replacement board, we have to pay to have it shipped to us. I have never met a business that has a 24 hour return policy. Most businesses have a 30 day return policy. Secondly, this product is not quality furniture. Besides the broken board, most of the pieces have gouges and knicks all over it. The wood on the drawers where you have to connect things is so thin that, even being extra careful, three drawers broke as we were trying to connect them. So, we basically have a broken, glued together, useless piece of junk that is an eyesore. This is not worth the 114 dollars plus the 80 bucks in paint and painting supplies it took to finish this eyesore. The company also was very curt in their e-mails and have done nothing to provide recompense for this piece of junk. The only thing that has changed is the advertising of the product, which is good for other people, but not us. I regret the day I bought this product. There are much better cabinets out there that might cost more money, but they are probably better quality and finished when you receive them.

The Ultimate Strategy for Decorating a Child’s Room!

March 23, 2009 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

When it comes to decorating a child’s room, your approach should be different from decorating an adult bedroom. That’s because a child’s bedroom should reflect his or her personality and not yours.

For kids, their bedroom is where they play games, read, listen to music, wrestle, display or hide prized possessions, day-dream, or just go to be alone sometimes. So try these eight strategies to help create a space that will make you both happy:

1. Talk to your child. Find out what activities and fantasies he or she enjoys; what their favorite color is; and what’s unique about their personality that a theme could be built around. Then work their interests into a design that will make them feel comfortable, happy, and safe.

2. Allow your child to help. Let them have a say about colors, fabrics, and how they want to display their collectibles. The design should be flexible enough to accommodate their changing tastes, needs, and interests.

3. Make the room multi-functional. Since children use their room for many activities besides sleeping, it should have several different zones.

These could include a play area; a reading area; a space to play with friends that’s equipped with a radio, CD player, and a TV/VCR; a display area with a wall or corkboard for favorite photos and artwork; and finally, a place for shelving to display collectibles, trophies, and other personal items.

4. Make storage a priority. Containing clutter will be one of your greatest challenges. Try shelving, large decorative wicker baskets, plastic see-through containers, and closets that contain plenty of shelving and racks.

5. Keep window treatments simple. Avoid long draperies. Shades, blinds, and shorter curtains are safer choices. The fabric should be versatile, and patterns should be repeated in other items in the room, such as in pillows, quilts, lampshades, bed ruffles, etc.

6. Choose the right lighting. A child’s room should include both task lighting for homework and reading, and soothing light for quieter times. A nightlight is also important if your child is not comfortable in the dark, and for safety reasons, so they can find their way to the bathroom at night.

7. Use wallpaper or paint to add color and texture. You can apply whimsical borders along the top edges of the walls, and clouds or stars on the ceiling.

It might be wise to make sure the walls of childrens rooms are washable, so if you are using paint, choose a semi-gloss or gloss finish. Kids love bright colors, but you should limit any strong color to only one wall. For example, paint one wall fire-engine red, and the others a soft peach or pink.

8. Allow your child to select the design theme. The choices are endless. Here are just a few: firehouse fun room, starry night, angels, rainbows, unicorns, baseball, a bedroom for a princess, underwater scenery, outer space, race cars, airplanes, trains, jungle motifs, wizards and dragons, and dinosaurs. You can visit our new Web site for a lot more ideas!

Decorating with your child offers a great opportunity to display your playful side, while doing some memorable family bonding. So have fun with it and remember that even if your child’s choice in themes seems bizarre, there’s probably a way to work out a compromise.
