Do you like what you have but dont like your room? Heres the solution: pull your rooms together so they look finished and professionally decorated by following these techniques to add the wow to your rooms! (Ive used them in hundreds of homes!).

1. Paint the walls and ceiling a rich, warm neutral color or one of the colors in your rooms fabrics. Your furnishings will immediately look more at home. I call it marrying your architecture to your furnishings.

2. Next, move your seating away from the walls and group it around a fireplace, a view window or any logical focal point.

3. Now, add a generous area rug to accent and unify your entire seating area.

4. Fill any empty looking corners with large plants and soft up-lights. Add a decorative, folding screen for a fuller look.

5. Place your lamps to evenly and softly light your seating area. Use additional lighting to accent your artwork, collections and accessories.

6. Create a focal point on the coffee table by elevating one of your favorite accessories on a stack of several books (sans covers). This will give your treasure more presence. Then add a low, full green plant or a blooming orchid and a couple of large, glowing candles. If you like a fuller look, use a decorative tray or runner underneath.

7. Lastly, be sure to decorate the top half of your room (from the furniture up), with tall plants, window treatments, artwork and that wall color. The room will feel considerably larger, more interesting and most importantly finished!

These few changes will make all the difference so you can start enjoying living in a beautiful home!

Home Improvement Catalogs

Due to the fast-paced life that people live nowadays, more and more individuals are turning their homes into sanctuaries of serenity with improvements. Home improvement, which used to be dominated by general contractors, is now being completed by homeowners themselves.

The proliferation of do-it-yourself home improvements may be a result of the cheaper costs (which eliminate contractors’ fees), working within the given budget, and also the proper execution of the homeowners’ home improvement ideas. Although improving one’s home without the help of professionals may seem to be an incredulous task, a lot of homeowners are taking the risk of remodeling their own homes by using relevant information that can be obtained through home improvement catalogs.

Home improvement catalogs offer a lot of valuable information regarding projects in the home. Pertinent information on simple home improvement projects such as painting walls, tiling, and minor carpentry work, among others are made available through these catalogs. Home improvement catalogs also present these home improvement ideas in ways that can be easily understood and followed by amateur home improvers. The materials and the tools for these projects found in home improvement magazines are also widely available from hardware stores, home improvement stores and warehouses, and even construction specialty stores. Also, these home improvement magazines are frequently supported online; homeowners can visit the websites anytime if they have any questions or need clarification regarding the steps involved in the projects that they are working on. People rely on home improvement catalogs not just to show them how things are done; they also include creative ideas that are appealing, attainable, and workable. They also offer valuable tips on cost-effective remodeling, remodeling time management, and remodeling basics.

Home improvement magazines are actually a compilation of remodeling ideas from experts in the field. Credible and reliable sources all work together to come up with an effective home improvement magazine. These sources include general contractors and builders; specialized workers such as plumbers, electricians, and masons, even artists and craftsmen; interior decorators; engineers and architects; and landscape contractors all share their expertise regarding their specific areas for these magazines.

Home Improvement provides detailed information on Home Improvement, Home Improvement Loans, Home Improvement Catalogs, Home Improvement Remodeling and more. Home Improvement is affiliated with Mobile Home Remodeling.

I found these to be exactly as described. They work great, much better than the last ones I purchased which were battery operated…..they only worked for a few days! I do like these, a lot.

Review date : 2008-05-27
The wood mills are 8-3/4 inches and that includes the metal knob. The base is 2 1/4 inch in diameter. Each mill weighs 11 oz and comes with about a tablespoon of salt/pepper but much more will fit. The metal knobs include a a black "S" or a "P" making it easy to identify the one you want.

The color seems pretty true. I was happy with it.
The paint is glossy and very smooth. (I’ll update if it chips)The mills are rather large but fit well in my hand. I like the way the mills grind but I have owned only one other mill so that is not much to judge it against. Over all I am happy with this lightning deal.

DIY Ladder Safety Tips

November 23, 2008 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

In 2004 The United States department of Labor reported that the number of injuries and fatalities from falls from roofs and ladders had increased. This report focused on occupational injuries that generally occur among trained personnel, which speaks to an even greater safety concern over DIY projects utilizing ladders.

Most accidents occur from incorrect use of the ladder or materials. Before you begin a project make sure that you have gone through safety preparations and are familiar with the tools to be used. As in most DIY projects, the best safety precaution is to think out your task thoroughly before beginning. You should have confidence in both yours and your equipment’s ability to complete the project.

Getting Started:

Once you have decided that you need to use a ladder to complete your project, make sure that you have the right type of ladder. There are many types of ladders all with their own advantages and disadvantages, which may include weight and height limits. If you are not sure that your ladder is the best fit for the job, make sure to consult a professional.

Some general things to look for in a ladder are:

How strong is it?

How tall is it?

Is it made primarily for indoor or outdoor use?

What material is it made out of (certain materials can have unique weaknesses or safety concerns)?

Does it have any cracks?

Does it have a coating such as paint that could cover defects?

Are the rungs secured?

Are the footpads secure and dry?

Diving into your Project:

While you may be eager to get started on your project, please take the time to ensure that your ladder is set-up correctly and that you know how to use it safely.

1. Make sure your ladder is steady. Place the ladder on a surface that is strong and level; also make sure that the ladder is not on top of any slippery materials.

2. If using a stepladder, make sure that the spreader arms are in the locked, open position.

3. If you are using a straight or extension ladder, make sure the ladder is resting at the correct angle to the wall or structure it is leaning on. The angle is normally 75-80 degrees. Or for every 4 ft high the ladder is on the wall, make the base 1 ft away from the bottom of the wall.

4. If using a straight or extension ladder, make sure that the top of the ladder is resting against a straight and solid surface.

5. Make sure that you have at least three points of contact with the ladder when working, such as two feet and one hand.

6. Wear flat shows or boots with grip when working on a ladder

7. Do not carry heavy items while climbing the ladder, use some type of hoist or pulley system to retrieve the items instead

8. Don’t work on a ladder in strong wind

9. Don’t allow children near the ladder

10. Never stand on the top two rungs of the ladder

11. Stay centered and facing the ladder when climbing or working

These ten tips will help keep you safe, however they are not all-inclusive. If you have any questions about your ladder or safety concerns about your project, make sure to consult an expert.

To Glue or Not to Glue

November 22, 2008 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

I have tried it and not seen a huge difference in the end result. The concrete seemed to cure faster but that may have been the weather. It was during the summer and very hot out. I am sure that it was a little more waterproof and seemed to resist chipping a bit better. In hypertufa I give it a big YES! It will improve your results considerably.

“Elmer’s” brand glue says on the label that you can use it in concrete and gives instructions. I think it said 300ml glue plus 150ml water per 10 lbs. of concrete mix. Don’t take my word for it, look it up!!

I have used it as a bonding agent when pouring new concrete on top of old. First wash the old with muratic acid, rinse then paint on the white glue. It seems to help. I have seen these joints taken apart with jackhammers a couple of years later and the bond looked excellent. This was in a very harsh west coast marine application, so I say it works well!

I also think that it makes a difference when added to hypertufa. My theory is that it gives back some of the strength lost due to the organic matter (peat) in Tufa. I also have an idea that it helps waterproof it a little, and that is a big benefit in outdoor projects.

I made a couple of “Giant Heads” about 3 feet high with ‘Tufa. These where done over about a week, adding on every day. The ‘Tufa had glue in it. I am certain it helped to bond it better during the sculpting process. When done they seemed a little harder on the surface and water ran off better than it did on projects where there was no glue added. I can tell you they survived one -35 degree winter, they disappeared after that so I cannot report any further.

Generally I would say that white glue works at least as well as you have heard. If you heard it does not work, don’t try it. I will continue to tell people to go ahead. It can’t do any harm!
