How To Bring Your Living Room To Life

November 27, 2008 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

Do you like what you have but dont like your room? Heres the solution: pull your rooms together so they look finished and professionally decorated by following these techniques to add the wow to your rooms! (Ive used them in hundreds of homes!).

1. Paint the walls and ceiling a rich, warm neutral color or one of the colors in your rooms fabrics. Your furnishings will immediately look more at home. I call it marrying your architecture to your furnishings.

2. Next, move your seating away from the walls and group it around a fireplace, a view window or any logical focal point.

3. Now, add a generous area rug to accent and unify your entire seating area.

4. Fill any empty looking corners with large plants and soft up-lights. Add a decorative, folding screen for a fuller look.

5. Place your lamps to evenly and softly light your seating area. Use additional lighting to accent your artwork, collections and accessories.

6. Create a focal point on the coffee table by elevating one of your favorite accessories on a stack of several books (sans covers). This will give your treasure more presence. Then add a low, full green plant or a blooming orchid and a couple of large, glowing candles. If you like a fuller look, use a decorative tray or runner underneath.

7. Lastly, be sure to decorate the top half of your room (from the furniture up), with tall plants, window treatments, artwork and that wall color. The room will feel considerably larger, more interesting and most importantly finished!

These few changes will make all the difference so you can start enjoying living in a beautiful home!

Home Garden Decor For The Fall

November 27, 2008 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

The backyard porch, patio, or deck is a favorite place for many people to relax and enjoy the outdoors. There are many decorating options available for the home garden area, and seasonal accessories are a way to keep the decorating updated. The little details are what make the difference and you do not have to go to great expense either. The fall is a wonderful time to decorate your outdoor space. Here are some inexpensive and simple ways to accessorize for the fall season.

Decorate with pumpkins. I love to decorate with pumpkins because they offer so much flexibility and are fairly inexpensive. Small pumpkins can line stair steps or be placed along porch railings. Larger pumpkins can be carved or hollowed out and have candles placed in them. A large pumpkin can be placed in a corner of a porch or deck by itself to perk up a bare corner. You could also make a collection of gourds and pumpkins. Combine several different sized pumpkins or gourds on a hay bale. Try to keep things at varying heights to make it more visually interesting.

To continue with the fall theme use fall color leaves to make tabletop displays, garlands, or wreaths. Place fall colored foliage along porch railings and on end tables. I like to make my own wreaths using elements from nature like pine cones or twigs and branches. Grapevine wreaths are a perfect accessory for the fall. Baskets full of colored leaves or even burlap sacks filled with leaves and tied with a matching bow can be a wonderful corner accessory.

Other ways to inexpensively accessorize your outdoor decor include fall seasonal flags, door mats, or table top decor. Visit the dollar store for baskets that you can fill with pine cones, apples, or small pumpkins. For a fragrant touch, add a cinnamon broom or a pumpkin spice candle to an enclosed porch or patio.

With just a little bit of planning you can find some wonderful accessories to decorate your backyard, porch, or patio for the fall season.

I borrowed one of these from a friend to pull the dandelions from my yard and I loved how effective it was. I had to buy one of my own. I’ve pulled weeds with roots up to a foot long - and I didn’t have to worry about using poisins near my gardens. It does leave a hole but you can fill it very easily.

Was fairly disappointed in this product’s performance. Have to place it Just Right and soil needs to be Just So - otherwise wind up yanking away at branches of weed and not the weed itself.

Review date : 2008-06-04
I’m a novice gardener and have become the steward of a sadly overgrown garden. I bought this blindly after having spent a day kneeling and ripping up weeds by hand. I lucked out! What a great product. It’s solidly constructed and has some real heft to it. I did have some issues getting used to how it worked at first. After a while, I got the rhythm and had a blast destroying unsuspecting dandelions and milkweed. I sure hope the neighbors didn’t hear me as I laughed maniacally at the death of those weedy invaders!

Why knock off a star? I did find that a little twisting motion applied as I pulled up slowly helped to get the entire root system. I also noted that sometimes the hound got a little greedy at times and pulled up a lot of soil. I just knocked it off and pushed it back into the divot. And finally, the metal sometimes gets a little stuck and tough to release if I get a little to carried away with weed assassination. I really had to whack it to get it to work again- but keeping that in mind prevented further issues. I also bet I could squirt a little WD40 in there to get it moving again.

All in all- absolutely worth the money!

I think that this works great. I love it and have not put down any bad chems to get rid of weeds.

Review date : 2008-05-08
The design concept is good but this tool needs some reconfiguration before it’s truly effective.

1. The pulling tines should be a bit longer. (They aren’t long enough to grab on and pull up the whole dandelion root, even in wet soil.)

2. The diameter of the base of the tines (where they are mounted) needs to be about 1/4 inch more. (Would give a better chance of grabbing onto the root as the exact center of a dandelion is sometimes hard to eyeball.)

3. Shaft of tool needs to be about 3 inches longer. (So the tool-user doesn’t have to bend over so much to use this thing.)

Solar Home Improvements Without Panels

November 26, 2008 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

You’ve grown tired of paying monstrous electric bills and have decided to go solar. Solar panels, however, aren’t exactly your taste. Don’t worry, you can go solar without them.

Solar panels are used to convert sunlight into electricity, which can be used to light and heat a home. They are not, however, the only method for accomplishing these goals with the sun. A simple experiment you can try in your driveway will show you why.

Park your car in a sunny spot on your driveway. Get in, mark the time, close the vents and roll up the windows. It starts getting pretty warm pretty quick, eh? You’ve just experience a concept known as direct gain energy. The power of the sun is more than sufficient to create heating and lighting if it is manipulated to hit your home in the right way.

Direct gain is a concept that has existed for thousands of years. Before electricity was in abundant supply, ancient societies planned entire structures around the concept. You can learn from their experience.

The first rule of direct gain is to focus on the south facing side of your home. In the Northern Hemisphere, the south side of any structure will receive the most sunlight during the year. If the sun is not striking the south side of your home, you’re going to need to move some trees and what not. Failing to do so will kill any direct gain heating options you have available to you. The sun must have a clear path to the south side of your structure or you can stop reading this article.

Once gardening issues are resolved, you need to take a close look at the surface areas. Much like a car, it is important that the sun has a method for penetrating the exterior of the home. The primary issue concerns windows. Are there any and, if so, how big are they?

The easiest method to generate solar heat in your home is by placing large windows on the south side of the home. Home Depot, here we come. To truly maximize the effect, you should also have two additional components.

The first is a fan system that will help circulate air out into the rest of the home. The temperature differences from room to room will eventually equalize, but a few ceiling fans can help.

The second issue to consider is your flooring. Windows are great and all, but what happens when the sun goes down? No more sunlight and no more heat. To overcome this problem, you can make improvements to the flooring below the windows. Yank up the carpet and put in some material that soaks up the sunlight. Certain ceramic and masonry products will hold significant amounts of heat. As the sun beats down on them, they slowly heat up during the day. Once the sun sets, they start giving off heat which allows you to maximize your passive solar system.

While this strategy will not replace your traditional heating costs, it can act as a supplemental system to take care of heating issues during the day and early evening. Break out your hammer and you can cut a chunk out of your utility bill!

Holds all of my dvd’s neatly I have 3 other and they make a nice wall unit type.

Review date : 2008-05-27
it’s a little shorter than i thought but it functions well and is very easy to setup

Review date : 2008-04-23
The bookcase is wonderful if only for the fact that there is no assembly required. Right out of the box and open the shelves. That is good enough for me. And it looks good.

Review date : 2008-04-17
The shelf is nice-looking, sturdy and best of all, there is no assembly required. The bottom shelf is tall enough to fit text books. I have it completely filled with books and it still seems sturdy. The wood is nice - doesn’t look like cheap veneer and is a rich reddish brown. I thought it would be a little taller but other than that, I’m very happy with this purchase.

I love this shelf! It’s sturdy! Great for our DVD collection. It looks up-scale, not cheap. :o) I’m SO happy with it, I bought two!
