How To Bring Your Living Room To Life

November 4, 2008 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

Do you like what you have but dont like your room? Heres the solution: pull your rooms together so they look finished and professionally decorated by following these techniques to add the wow to your rooms! (Ive used them in hundreds of homes!).

1. Paint the walls and ceiling a rich, warm neutral color or one of the colors in your rooms fabrics. Your furnishings will immediately look more at home. I call it marrying your architecture to your furnishings.

2. Next, move your seating away from the walls and group it around a fireplace, a view window or any logical focal point.

3. Now, add a generous area rug to accent and unify your entire seating area.

4. Fill any empty looking corners with large plants and soft up-lights. Add a decorative, folding screen for a fuller look.

5. Place your lamps to evenly and softly light your seating area. Use additional lighting to accent your artwork, collections and accessories.

6. Create a focal point on the coffee table by elevating one of your favorite accessories on a stack of several books (sans covers). This will give your treasure more presence. Then add a low, full green plant or a blooming orchid and a couple of large, glowing candles. If you like a fuller look, use a decorative tray or runner underneath.

7. Lastly, be sure to decorate the top half of your room (from the furniture up), with tall plants, window treatments, artwork and that wall color. The room will feel considerably larger, more interesting and most importantly finished!

These few changes will make all the difference so you can start enjoying living in a beautiful home!

I’ve tried sharpening rods, stones, blocks, and more in an attempt to keep my kitchen knives sharp, and none worked nearly as well as this little gadget. I’ve owned this one for a couple of years now and it still does the job. You just slide the knife in and out of the "mouth" of it a few times until a satisfactory sharpening is achieved. I only wish I could use it for scissors, too!

Several years ago, I bought an electric sharpening system for around $40 and was never very impressed. This Fiskars sharpener is 10 times better! It puts a razor-like edge on my knives with very little effort. I took it to my mother’s house to do her knives, and all she could say was "WOW!" I would recommend this item to all.

If one really wants to put a razor sharp edge on an axe or knife, a set of diamond whetstones is the best way to do it. This painstaking manual process requires time and proper technique. Beware: a razor sharp edge is exactly that and not to be trifled with. On the other hand, if "pretty darn sharp" is good enough…and it should be for most utility purposes…a dedicated sharpening tool like the Fiskars will get the job done quickly and with minimum risk to one’s fingers. There are a number of similar products on the market. This one comes from a reputable manufacturer at a good price point.

I love my sharpener, it restores the factory razor edge with ease, a must have.

sonuvabitch! everyone should have one of these sharpeners for knives and hatchets. i will also take some of this time to promote the sport of disc golf. it is the most fun you will ever have, and it is way cheaper than regular golf…google it and look for a park near you that has some baskets.

Christmas Myth Buster - 4 Insights Smash the Myth that Retailers Ruined Christmas

November 4, 2008 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

Retail stores have been a dominant, powerful expression of reinforcing the goodwill and community spirit associated with Santa Claus and Christmas. Retailers made it possible for us as a community to find common ground and come together in celebration regardless of religion or faith. Each year they put on many displays and give away gifts to the throngs of children that visit Santa Claus in their centers each year. A sense of community togetherness, sharing, caring, fun and magic is in the air for everyone young and old to enjoy!

1. Santa turned into a national icon - it was retailers who through commercialization turned the jolly Saint Nicholas into a much loved icon throughout most of the western world. Take Montgomery Ward’s department store who developed a children’s book featuring Santa and Rudolph. This book has been one of the most magical, heart warming children’s book written which is still much loved to this day. Let’s not forget Coca Cola who had him drawn up in their colors of red and white and made him even more popular.

2. Trail blazing Christmas excitement - yes it’s true that retailers actually were the ones responsible for making Christmas popular to the masses. They extended Christmas into the wider community by decorating stores, putting on specials and adding colorful festive displays, choirs and in some cases small pantomime plays. The retailers really go out of their way to create each year a sense of celebration where everyone can benefit from and experience the fun, magic and excitement.

3. Retailers give the gift of Santa and reinforce giving - major retail stores added a Santa Claus so that children could have a special memorable visit and get a bonus treat or small gift. The event was nearly always marked by a photograph with Santa for keep sake. Today most of us cherish those visits, photographs and memories. Retailers remind us about the good virtues of sharing and giving.

4. Decorations add to the community spirit - With an array of specially designed Christmas gifts and ornaments at affordable prices, retailers have given the public the opportunity to decorate their own homes and make them extra special. Without commercialization we wouldn’t have Christmas trees, tinsel, ornaments, Christmas crackers and much more which all makes for a wonderland at Christmas for everyone to enjoy.

Let us all remember that commercialization gave all people the opportunity to participate in a community celebration. Whilst credit card debt may have sky rocketed, this is an individual problem. We need to take responsibility for our choices. There is always a lesson for those who find themselves challenged with money skills. Over-spending is purely a sign that money management skills and goal/planning techniques need to be learnt. Search for some tips on the internet or seek out an accountant to help you learn the basics of budgeting and planning.
