Outdoor Cedar Patio Furniture Goes Indoors!

September 27, 2008 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

It would be obvious to assume that the sudden boom in Patio Furniture sales was due to the hot new trend of building “Outdoor Rooms” that originated on popular Home and Garden TV shows and in Outdoor Decor Magazines. But there’s another less obvious explanation as well. Patio Furniture peices like the Garden Bench, Porch Rocker, Athena Adirondack Chair, Classic Adirondack Chair, Adirondack Loveseat, and Picnic Table are more and more being adapted for use indoors, particularly in Cottages and Cabins.

Perhaps the most versatile indoor/outdoor peice is the Garden Bench. The Garden Bench has long ago been adapted for use in cottage entranceways near the hat and coat rack. And more recently, there is a trend towards dressing up Garden Benches for use in Cottage sitting rooms using painting and stenciling techniques and adding designer pillows.

Similarly, Porch Rockers are being used inside Cabins and Cottages. Though many people choose to stain or paint their Rockers, many designers are recommending that you leave them unfinished for an indoor rustic look as the Cedar wood ages naturally.

Perhaps the most surprising recent development is the use of Athena Adirondack Chairs, classic Adirondack Chairs, and Adirondack Loveseats indoors. Many designers are creating sitting rooms in cottages and cabins using these Cedar Patio Furniture peices by adding pillows and sometimes upholstering the chairs with cushions and exotic fabrics.

Finally, the latest Outdoor Furniture peice to go indoors is the Cedar Picnic Table. Whether it’s the Oval Picnic Table option or the Round Picnic Table set, people are now using them indoors in country kitchens and cottage breakfast nooks.

With slight adjustments (and sometimes none at all), Patio Furniture can be used indoors in ways that you perhaps never considered. One thing’s for sure, wherever you decide to use your Cedar Patio Furniture - indoors or out - you are limited only by your imagination.

You can find a complete line of Cedar Patio Furniture at http://www.GoCedar.com. Your Patio Furniture is shipped free to home and cottages throughout the Continental USA and Canada.

How To Bring Your Living Room To Life

September 26, 2008 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

Do you like what you have but dont like your room? Heres the solution: pull your rooms together so they look finished and professionally decorated by following these techniques to add the wow to your rooms! (Ive used them in hundreds of homes!).

1. Paint the walls and ceiling a rich, warm neutral color or one of the colors in your rooms fabrics. Your furnishings will immediately look more at home. I call it marrying your architecture to your furnishings.

2. Next, move your seating away from the walls and group it around a fireplace, a view window or any logical focal point.

3. Now, add a generous area rug to accent and unify your entire seating area.

4. Fill any empty looking corners with large plants and soft up-lights. Add a decorative, folding screen for a fuller look.

5. Place your lamps to evenly and softly light your seating area. Use additional lighting to accent your artwork, collections and accessories.

6. Create a focal point on the coffee table by elevating one of your favorite accessories on a stack of several books (sans covers). This will give your treasure more presence. Then add a low, full green plant or a blooming orchid and a couple of large, glowing candles. If you like a fuller look, use a decorative tray or runner underneath.

7. Lastly, be sure to decorate the top half of your room (from the furniture up), with tall plants, window treatments, artwork and that wall color. The room will feel considerably larger, more interesting and most importantly finished!

These few changes will make all the difference so you can start enjoying living in a beautiful home!

I have the Balboa Collection; the corner piece, armless chair and the chaise, and have been very happy with it. I have had it for over a year on my patio and think that it looks great, the perfect piece for enjoying summer outdoors. The wood has held up well, there are a few places that it has split but nothing major and they are barley noticeable, mainly on the bottom of the legs. This occurred during winter since I live in a place with a lot of moisture I figured not storing the wood indoors could affect it, and was pleasantly surprised with the minimal amount of splitting. The cushions have held up well too (I bring them inside during the winter to store them) and are very comfy. The depth on the pieces are good for relaxing and the chaise is great to stretch out and read in the sun. I will mention that the chaise is not long enough to lay completely on your back and not have your feet hang off the edge, but it is the right size for reading while sitting and stretching out your legs. The ottoman has come in very handy as an extra place to stretch your legs if another person is sitting in the chaise portion or I have used it without the cushion as a cocktail table to put the wine and cheese on. Overall I think that the Balboa collection is a great item for my yard and am very happy with the quality and price.

Gardening - Growing Herbs In Containers

September 26, 2008 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

Today it is becoming increasingly popular to grow herbs either for decoration or for cooking. Herbs can be grown in the garden or in a container. Container planting comes into its own if there is lack of garden space, to ensure the survival and confine a plant or just for easy access.

Container planting enables you to position herbs where they can delight the sense of smell, prolong their growing season and create a visually appealing environment that is a constant source of interest.

Herbs do thrive more vigorously in the ground but with a certain amount of care and common sense they can be grown in pots either outside or indoors.

If placing a container on a balcony or free standing structure be sure to make sure that it is sturdy enough to support the weighty combination of soil and water.

Herbs in a group of pots can provide a focal point and look more pleasing to the eye than one lonely specimen. They also seem to enjoy each other’s company and benefit from the microclimate that grouping creates. By changing the position of the pots seasonal gaps can be filled or the appearance of the garden can be changed.

Herbs in pots are an excellent way to create different color schemes in large or small areas. For a silver or moonlight garden, plant artemisias, santolinas and curry plants. To create a golden garden, use lemon thyme, variegated lemon balm, calendula, lady’s bedstraw, nasturtiums and variegated sage. For a blue garden choose hyssop, borage, catmint, rosemary and sage.

The space needed by particular species will dictate how many plants can be put in a planter. A container 1 meter long can hold four or five low-growing herbs that will benefit from being kept well trimmed, such as sage, thyme, marjoram and salad burnet. A tub or barrel filled with culinary herbs; such as rosemary, chives, sage, mint (in its own container), or lemon balm make a delightful addition to a barbecue area.

These plants, though, are dependant on care and are more vulnerable than plants in open ground.

If general guidelines are followed you can grow herbs in a container quite successfully.

First of all always start with a clean container and make sure that the plants will have good drainage. Make sure that the soil is friable and porous. It is best not to use ordinary garden soil but use a good commercial potting mix.

It is important to ensure that the container size and the plants are compatible. Small plants flounder in large pots and large plants will be stifled in a small pot.

Check indoor herbs regularly to see if they need watering. They should never be allowed to become bone dry. For instance rosemary never fully recovers if left to dry out completely. By contrast, though, sage will collapse if watered too frequently.

To aid vigorous growth keep the pot weed free, remove deadheads and trim the leaves back.

Herbs should be fed through their leaves or the soil every two weeks during the growing season, easing off as their growth rate slows.

If a herb looks sorry for itself, check if it needs water, or feeding and whether it is standing in a draught or not receiving the correct amount of light.

I ordered one of these and love it so much that now i have two. These machines are best used for a small to medium room. I have one in my kitchen, one in the basement and need to get another for the bedroom and living room. Easy to clean and like not having to purchase new filters.

It is a lowest quality product there is: noisy and getting noisier every day, it starts vibrating more and more, plastic parts are falling off, smells plastic staff and so on. In addition, the sale store Toyzz would NOT take it back!

Well my husband and I have allergies to cigarette smoke. Our roommate is ill and refuses to quit smoking. We have done everything except hermetically sealing him in his room. The smoke still travels out to the hallway and then the AC sucks it into the system and sends it through the whole house. I put this unit in the hallway between his door and the AC intake. WOW!! it has almost completely knocked out the smoke!!! We are Very happy with this unit.

I have to make a reply to someone who said this unit was noisy. It is really barely audible. It has a low mid range tone to its hum … and that is on High. It is certainly less noisy than say a 10 inch personal fan.

Have used it 24/7 since buying. It does seems to work well with allergies (but hard to tell since pollen levels etc… along with allergies have good and bad days).

Did like it enough to buy a second one (but I bought it branded as ‘VICS’ hepa-filter … it was less expensive … but apart from the graphics on the box, and the tiny triangular spot on the front being vics-blue-v colored it is identical)

Use hose on vacuum to clean the hepa filter when the indicator light goes on.

This product works well for the price and there’s the bonus that the filter doesn’t need to be replaced all the time. It isn’t full HEPA quality, but who really needs that in a home. I have it in my bedroom. It has eliminated most of the dust from the air, and I haven’t had to clean any dust off of surfaces since I started running it. It is fairly quiet at low speeds, though not the quietest on the market I suppose.

Overall, a great product for the price if you’re not working in a medical environment where you need full HEPA level filtering.

Designing the Perfect Bedroom

September 25, 2008 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

Being a quite place where one goes to relax and forget about the laborious day they had, the bedroom should be a comfortable retreat. It is likely that one spends perhaps the most time in their bedroom in comparison to any other room and most of this time is spent resting. As such the bedroom should be the quietest and coziest place in your home. Not only should your bedroom be a calm sanctuary it should also reflect who you are and, in essence, bring to mind warm, soothing thoughts.

Obviously there are a multitude of bedroom sets and furnishings one can choose from to put into their bedroom. Thus finding one that suits you can be a rather easy. It may take some deliberation but eventually you will discover a bedroom suite ideal for your personality. Along with uncovering the perfect bedroom set deciding on a color is another decision that you must contemplate. Not only must you find the color aesthetically pleasing, you should also consider how the color makes you feel. Inviting colors that create a relaxing atmosphere of serenity are best suited for your bedroom space.

If at all possible, having just the bare bedroom essentials in your room, that is, simply a bed and bedroom furnishings, is best for aiding the creation of a tranquil retreat. Sometimes, however, space within the remainder of the house is limited and one must include office space of recreational space within their bedroom. To minimize the rousing effect these things have, it is wise to isolate them from the bed. Have your bed and your office space on opposite ends of the room.

Ensuring that your bedroom is lit well is a must as well. Lighting can mean everything in a bedroom as it can essentially create an intimate atmosphere if necessary or it can generate a peaceful aura ideal for sleeping.
