Decorating A Kid’s Room

August 31, 2008 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

The most important thing to consider when decorating a childs room is to make the child comfortable. You want to surround them with fun, playful items. The way this room is designed is going to have an effect on the psyche of the child, so allow room for imagination and freedom.

It may be helpful to let the child help you decorate. Pick out the colors, or the wallpaper together. One trick is to purchase inexpensive plain white wall paper, then when it is up, let the child paint a mural of their choice on it. You can do this once a year and continue to reinvent the room over and over again.

Big boxes and lots of shelves will help the child keep the room clean. Make labels for all of the containers with big bright words, that will help remind the child what that container is for.

Decorating in toys is another idea for a childs room. Set up scenes on shelves, or tables, with their toys in different poses. You can have action toys attacking an enemy base, or dolls working in a kitchen. This allows the dcor to be a play item itself. Every time you look at the scene you will get new ideas and more inspiration.

Mostly just let the room be imaginative. Use bright colors, and create a dcor that will give the childs mind something to think about, and room to explore. Dont hold back, you can play too.

Hallway Tables Make an Elegant First Impression

August 31, 2008 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

The foyer or entryway is often the last part of your house you think about decorating, but it’s the first part of your house a guest sees. This is the place to make a statement about your home and your hospitality. Hallway tables provide the perfect finishing touch that says you’ve thought your decor through all the way to the front door. There’s a wide variety of options available for every decor theme, taste and budget.

Choose a simple walnut table with slender legs for a touch of elegance. Or a bombe chest to show your exotic taste (and give you some extra storage drawers!). Try a rustic table for more of a log cabin feel. For a more contemporary look, try glass, metal, or painted wood.

One of the benefits of a hallway table is that it makes your foyer seem larger, as long as you don’t get one that cramps the walkway. The very fact that there’s room for the table fools the brain into thinking the foyer is bigger than it really is. When ordering online, measure the space to make sure the table will fit. If you have trouble visualizing, pile some boxes or other objects into the space the table will occupy. Can you walk around it easily? Does either end jut past a doorway? Is it the wrong height for a chair rail or existing wall decor you can’t move? Answering these questions will prevent you from choosing the wrong table.

When looking online for a hallway table, remember to check for “sofa tables”, “hallway chests” and “chests”, too. Sofa tables are often indistinguishable from hallway tables, and it’s just a matter of how the company has chosen to market the product. Chests look just as good as tables, and may work better for you in terms of the look you want and/or the extra storage space in the drawers.

Decorating A Bedroom For The Subconscious Mind Psychology Of Colors

August 30, 2008 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

Psychology of colors the bedroom

Color can have an astounding effect on perceptions, feelings, and interactions. Different colors evoke different memories and different ideas. In the bedroom, where one is supposed to be most at ease, it is important that you plan out your color scheme so that it creates the maximum comfort for you.

Psychologists have been studying the effects of color on people for many years. While they have made many discoveries about color effects on people in different societies, they have not found any effects that occur across all societies. For instance in China the color red tends to make people feel calm, while in America red tends to make people more aggressive. This means that the effect of color on a persons mind is individual and perceptual, rather then being physiological and inherent. In order to choose the right color for a setting, you will have to get in touch with your inner self, and see which color you harmonize best with. In the bedroom one tries to achieve maximum relaxation. By choosing the colors that you feel most comfortable with, you will find the greatest contentment with your decor.

Think about the following colors. Think about each one separately. Think about their different shades, how you feel about them, what they invoke in you.

Red. Orange. Yellow. Green. Blue. Violet. Purple. White. Black

Once you have gained insight into how you feel about those colors, you can read about the general effects these colors have on people in American society. Dont be afraid to disagree, your tastes are different from anyone elses, but do keep in mind that the average American that enters the room will feel these effects to some extent.

The two extreme colors are white and black. Black is an attention grabber, and can create a bedroom with a dark, sultry look. Unfortunately it will also make the room look smaller and seem more restrictive. Overuse of the color black can be dangerous in a room like the bedroom, as it can darken a persons mood. It may even produce night mares. Meanwhile its polar opposite, white, can be uninspiring. Most rooms start off with white walls, and it is the generic look for many homes. It can have a positive and soothing effect on ones emotions, but it may also lead to a lack of stimulation which can be a terrible thing in a bedroom. Whatever ones perceptions however, white is a good color for warm climates. White reflects light creating cooler temperatures and a breezy feeling.

The earth tones are gentle and will keep a bedroom feeling close and snuggly, as long as you pay attention to the tones you use. These colors include browns, oranges, and yellows. Browns tend to remind Americans of family, and of emotional bonds to each other and the world. Orange is a color that makes people happy, but is also the color associated with food and could lead to midnight snacking. Yellow creates a very positive effect on people psychologically, but only short term. Long term exposure to this color can lead to irritation.

Blues and greens evoke serenity and peace. They are colors associated with nature and the ocean. Using these colors heavily in your bedroom can help to calm the emotions of its inhabitants, and bring restful nights. Blue will also calm cravings for food after youve gone to bed, because there is very little blue food in nature, so our minds tend to repress hunger at its site. Pink is the extreme claming color and many will find it impossible to act aggressively when surrounded by it. Purple is a nice color for a bedroom that will make it look more sophisticated.

Red is an exciting color. If you have trouble falling asleep, dont use red in the bedroom. However, to get a tired relationship going, red may be just the color you want. Red makes Americans aggressive. It speeds up their metabolism and gives them energy. Red is a good color for sheets or blankets, because if it becomes too distracting it can be put away until desired.

Combining these colors yields further effects, which are numerous beyond the scope of this article. Remember that shade and tone is important, and will alter these effects. Most importantly, you should have the final say; it is the colors effect on your own mind that is important, and only you can truly understand your own impressions.

I read the reviews and was prepared for this when it happened… I ordered two towels of different sizes, both gave 5-10 day shipping times, the first arrived in 6 days, the second about 3 weeks later!
Great towels and worth the wait however. I may order more now, in time for guests at thanksgiving!

What’s So Good About Alloc Laminate Flooring

August 30, 2008 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

When it comes time to add that beautiful flooring to your home that you have always wanted, it is time to consider going with Alloc laminate flooring. This Swedish company produced the original glue-less flooring that has given to the industry a new standard of excellence. It has also given to the do-it-yourselfer an edge that makes it so much easier to put these beautiful floors in for themselves. Here are some reasons why you should consider the easy to install system of the Alloc laminate floors to enhance the beauty of your home or office.

No Glue

Each one of the boards that is used in the Alloc laminated flooring has a specially patented lock joint that firmly holds the boards together, giving you a very tight fit that leaves no spaces between the boards. In addition, the boards stay together and will continue to look beautiful long after they have been installed in your home.

Because of the tongue and groove interlocking pieces, absolutely no glue is needed. This eliminates a lot of mess, and no cleanup is needed afterwards, either. A precise aluminum joint that provides a great deal of endurance is strong enough for them to give you a lifetime warranty on some of their products. Other products are typically guaranteed for at least 25 years. This same joint system gives you a fit without unsightly spaces and keeps them that way.

Easier To Install

The purpose of Alloc laminated flooring was to make it much easier to install. Because of the ease with which it can be installed, people who have never put down wood flooring before can do it, all they need to do is to follow simple instructions. One of the intended plans of the manufacturers was to make a floor laying system easy enough that it could cut out about half the time it normally takes to install a floor.

Underlayment Attached

To further simplify the system, the company decided to attach the underlayment directly to the boards. This time saver feature helps you to get your new flooring in place as a one-day weekend project that you can walk on as soon as it is in place. As if that is not enough, you even have the ability to pick the floor up and move it to another room - if you should ever want to do that.

Long Lasting

The construction of each of the Alloc laminate flooring boards helps it to last a long time. The flooring boards, which are made by direct pressure, have a surface of melamine and aluminum oxide, which gives it excellent durability. Each board also has its edges impregnated with wax in order to make it moisture resistant and to quiet the steps of anyone walking on the floor.

For Home Or Commercial Use

Alloc has about 25 different laminate flooring styles and is the ideal choice for either your home or office. It also can be used in commercial places, too, and it certainly is durable enough. With many so many styles available, you will easily be able to get the color and texture you want to match just about any need. The flooring is readily available in stores all over the country, and the features of the Alloc system are also sold by a number of sub-brands, too.

The Different Spellings Of &quotCrown Molding&quot

August 29, 2008 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

It is said that during the Boston Tea Party of 1773, bundles of British tea were dumped overboard to protest unfair taxation. As it turns out, not everything British was abandoned that evening. The same early Americans might have written that . . . after finding something in the galley that appeared to be moulding; we journeyed below to find some decorative crown moldings, which we made use of forthwith. Good thing too. If these architectural details where made of polyurethane, they would still be floating around the Atlantic to this day.

When referring to Crown Mouldings, or Cornices as they would, the British and their many have always used the ou in the spelling while the Correct American spelling remains without the u Having said this, American companies seem divided on this point.

Many American corporations that manufacture or sell mouldings have kept the Old Word spelling in their company name and branding, perhaps out of conscience for the historical significance of these decorative building material products.

You may have noticed that many web sites use both spellings throughout their various pages. This is done because different versions are often used when customers are searching for products to buy online. If you were to analyze search engine results, you would find the traditionally southern states search more under Molding while others are apt to use Moulding, the spelling of which would also be used to describe the blue stuff at the back of the fridge, refrigerator, or icebox if you prefer.

Whatever your spelling preference, you are bound to end up with a large selection of companies and products to choose from. This way, it matters not, the way that you spell the word, just as long as you keep in mind, that it is better to hang it on the wall than to find it at the back of your fridge.

. . . . . After all, you never know when someone might be dropping by for tea.

Customer Reviews

Review date : 2008-07-16
We love the Heineken BeerTender (having cold draft beer in the house is great!), and though you must have the BeerTender Tubes in order for it to work, there is frequently a problem with them. Sometimes the spout end of the tube doesn’t allow the spigot top to shut properly, so we have to wiggle it around and play with it for a lot longer than seems right to get it to shut. When they slide right in, it’s a wonderful thing, but about 75% of the time, this problem arises.

Other than that, Amazon got them delivered in short order, so Amazon gets five stars!

Review date : 2008-07-09
Why is Amazon the only distributor? I wanted to buy
the tubes in the store when I bought the Beer Tender
but no go.
On top of it Amazon raised the price almost double
in the last month.

Review date : 2008-07-08
While it’s a bit of a pain (and cost) to be tied to an item like this that needs replacing, what can beat the convenience of having beer on tap at home? At least the kegs are pretty reasonable!

Review date : 2008-06-23
I love the BeerTender and it was great to be able to order a bunch of the tubes in advance since it is so hard to find them at stores. If you have bought the mini-kegs in the past and have enjoyed them, then you should think about getting the BeerTender and order some tubes in advance. It can be very sad having a nice, cold mini-keg in your BeerTender and no tubes for dispensing!

Review date : 2008-06-19
Works perfectly with the Heineken Draughtkegs. Its a great way to get Heineken Light on Draught!

How To Give Your Home More Space

August 29, 2008 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

Have you been wondering how to free up space in your home? Do you live in a dorm or an efficiency where every inch of space counts?

Maybe you’re tired of trying to come up with ideas on how to reduce the clutter? Or don’t know where to start?

If you don’t know where to start and feel like you’re backed into a corner then maybe this is your solution to the problem.

Let me introduce you to the top-to-bottom-strategy.

It is a procedure that can be of great service to you if you are starting out and you are about to move into your own home.

Or if you already own a house full of furniture and are willing to sell or donate what you no longer want in order to purchase a better version.

It will work in many situations from great to small.

The greater your willingness to get rid of the old and bring in the new, the bigger space difference there will be in your home.

You may not want to exchange out many items in your home but decide on a few select items that will make a big difference once you’ve gotten rid of them.

The most beneficial part of the top-to-bottom-strategy is that it can be customized to your preference.

That’s what makes it very opportunistic–it can be adjusted according to your desires.

The top-to-bottom-strategy is a simple three step procedure that will help you reevaluate your thought process.

This strategy deals with three levels. And each level can be used to help you better furnish your home by weighing any item you want or own against the top-to-bottom-strategy.

The 3 Levels

Level 3: Ceiling

Level 2: Wall

Level 1: Floor

You’ll notice with each level you move from top to bottom. Also notice that each level moves from ONLY taking up air space to taking up walking space.

Items that DO NOT affect your walking zone are considered to be items that take up air space.

The further up your item is positioned the freer your walking zone. And the more space you have in your home. The highest level that you can go is Level 3.

In which an item you purchase is mounted from your ceiling.

You may have, in the past, considered furnishing your home using these three levels, but only under certain conditions. For example, you may have first wanted a floor lamp but instead decided to get a sconce installed on your wall or a chandelier mounted from the ceiling rather than your first initial idea.

That is a situation in which all three levels are used accidentally.

But normally, you are likely to find that you have constantly left out Level 2 and Level 3 when you consider furnishing your home with a new item.

The reason for this is easy to understand–you normally see what you want and then you buy it.

And when you’ve done this there has been very little organization in furnishing your home.

Except with the thought of whether you have enough floor space for the item in consideration.

Before today, when you’ve considered purchasing an item you haven’t really considered the three levels in combination with the item that you want.

You were never taught, and never thought, much about the three levels because history never offered such circumstances until recently.

Manufacturers today are creating products with the less-is-more idea in mind.

Home furnishings are far lighter and far more space conserving now than they ever have been.

So this strategy was never needed in the past since our predecessors had an entirely different way of life.

Less busy. Less complicated in specific areas, and so on.

But that is clearly not the case today.

When you recognize that you want something from this day forward you can easily offer your home the best space possible by considering whether you can furnish your home with an item on Level 3 first.

And if it is not possible on that level, drop down a level until it is possible to furnish your home on that specific level.

Take for example, a television.

Level 1: Floor

You know your home can easily be furnished with a television using Level 1.

And your most space conservative item to mount a television on is a pedestal tv stand, or a tv pole that extends from the floor to the ceiling.

When you use Level 1 you want to be certain to brainstorm for the most space conserving way to use your floor space.

You’ll want to find the smallest, yet most reliable item that you can find that will do the job.

And when you are able to find this type of item, it is so good at space conserving that Level 1 almost gives you the same advantages that Level 2 does.

For example, if you were to use a tv pole to put your tv on. The pole itself takes up so little floor space and mounts the tv in midair that it’s similar to furnishing your home with a tv using Level 2.

Level 1 will always take up floor space and interfere with your walking zone.

The best you can do with Level 1 is get an item that uses as little floor space as possible and interferes with your walking zone as little as possible.

Level 2: Wall

These days with lcds and plasma tvs, you even know that your home can be furnished with the television using Level 2.

And your most space conservative item to mount your television on is a tv wall mount. But not only can lcds and plasmas be mounted on the wall, your average television can be too.

There are dozens of wall mounts out there that mount regular tvs. But tv wall mounts may be something that has never surfaced to your mind.

And this is a good example of when Level 2 is often left out of the picture.

Level 2 will not take up floor space but it will interfere with your walking zone the majority of the time.

The higher an item is positioned on your wall the less it will interfere with your walking zone.

If it is positioned very high on your wall it will have the same exact advantages as Level 3. It will only take up air space and offer no space interference.

Level 3: Ceiling

Same goes with tvs and Level 3. There are dozens of ceiling mounts out there that your tvs can be mounted on.

But ceiling wall mounts don’t arise to the surface of many minds. And this also makes a good example of how Level 3 is often left out of the picture when furnishing your home.

Level 3 will not take up floor space or interfere with your walking zone (assuming you are not so tall that you actually reach your ceiling). Level three only takes up air space.

It offers the most advantages.

There are dozens and dozens of items out there that you may not even know exists that you can furnish your home with.

That are considered much lighter and more suitable alternatives than what you have in your home right now.

Consider an aquarium and the three levels. Did you know that wall aquariums existed?

Not the type that you put inside of a wall, but the type of aquarium in which you can hang on your wall like a picture?

They are often referred to as Living Pictures.

Living Pictures could be saving you space in your home right now if you knew about them.

If you own an aquarium that’s taking up a large amount of floor space you could easily incorporate Level 2 in your home to give yourself more room.

Not to mention you have more of an advantage by being able to place your Living Picture just about anywhere in your home.

Knowing about the top-to-bottom-strategy is offering yourself more freedom. And more knowledge. And knowledge is power.

One of the best ways that you can find out about these items is by using the top-to-bottom-strategy in combination with surfing the net and researching each item that you’re interested in.

Always remember to research what you want (using the top-to- bottom-strategy) before you go out and buy what you see.
