Good Reasons Why A Furniture Rental May Make Good Cents!

April 20, 2007 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

How often have you bought something only to decide a month or two later that it just doesn’t fit your lifestyle, or the color isn’t right? This is especially difficult situation when the purchase is relatively large like electronics, appliances, or furniture.

One important benefit of furniture and electronic appliance renting is that you can try the product out before really committing to ownership. Want to try the latest flat screen television but are concerned about the clarity or glare in your own home? Rent the unit for a month or so and try it out! This is especially true when considering an appliance technology that is new to you. Things like a flat heating element stove, or an extra large capacity washer and dryer all are good candidates for the try before you buy idea. If you think you may like that large capacity washer and dryer but can’t swing the 1,100 to 1,500 dollars for the pair, getting them from a furniture rental company may be a good alternative.

Furniture rental company services are also a way to try out the latest in furniture designs at a fraction of the costs of a direct purchase. Try color schemes in your home without committing to the direct purchase of that new sofa or bedroom suite until you know the color scheme is right.

The first consideration when renting furniture will probably be price. The reason for this is because most of the rental cost is rental fees and not toward the purchase cost. This is ok however in that the intent, at least from this point of view is to rent the equipment or furniture to see if it fits into your lifestyle and home. If you purchase directly and the color is wrong, or that flat screen television isn’t exactly right, too bad you own it. With furniture renting or try before you buy, if it’s wrong, it’s a simple matter to get an exchange or replacement.

Short term needs are another great reason why furniture rental services should be considered. If moving into a new home soon but don’t want to move your furniture from storage into temporary housing, then into the new home, rental services may be the answer. Or if moving is part of a career move and you find yourself with two homes, a short term rental service can save a lot of expense. Instead of buying two sets of furniture, consider using furniture rentals in the new home until your previous homes furnishings are shipped.

Although furniture rental companies also do sell product, they offer the very best in consumer satisfaction by using the rental services as a try before you buy option. All in all, this can offer a consumer good service at a moderate cost while delivering the products desired almost immediately.

Ceramic Floor Tile-Installation And Maintenance Tips

April 18, 2007 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

Ceramic floor tile is a great choice for many types of rooms. It comes in a large variety of styles and sizes and is durable and easy to clean.

When choosing tile for your room, be sure to pick a size that goes well with the dimensions of the room. A large room will look too busy with small sized tiles. Large sized tiles will overwhelm a small room. Tiles come in sizes ranging from 1″ to 2 feet so you should be able to find a size that looks nice in your space.

Also, you should consider your decor before choosing your tile. If you have a formal looking space then a polished marble tile might look great. If you have decor with a southwestern, Mexican or Italian flair then a rustic natural looking tile is best. A smooth, polished type of tile will be slippery when it gets wet so you might not want to install that in a entry room or bathroom. Also, tile gets very cold so if you are installing it in a basement, you better invest in a warm pair of slippers.

Don’t forget to select a grout that compliments your tile. A dark colored grout is best as a white grout will tend to get dirty looking very quickly.

Tile Installation

Installing ceramic tile is not too difficult, but if you’ve never done it before and aren’t very handy to begin with you might be better off with a professional. There’s nothing worse than spending a bundle on tile only to have it look crappy because you didn’t install it right!

If you do want to try it yourself, take your time. Measure your floor precisely and map off the exact middle, then lay your tile out in advance to see what it might look like. You can buy little plastic tile spacers that you put between each one so that you can be sure they are spaced evenly. Since no room is a perfect square, you will eventually have to cut some tiles to fit around appliances or jogs in the shape of the room. Make sure you have the right equipment for this and the job will go much smoother.

Once you have the tile in place, put in the grout as per the manufacturers instructions and seal accordingly. It helps to buy a good quality grout and sealer and will be well worth the added expense in the long run.

Tile Maintenance

Ceramic tile is one the easiest types of floors to clean and when properly cared for will maintain their shiny, new appearance for years to come. To clean your tile you don’t need anything fancy - just water and a floor cleaning product. Vacuum the floor first then use a sponge or mop to apply the cleaner and water mixture. Rinse off with water and let dry.

Other than that your ceramic tile does not need much care. You will have to be careful about dropping heavy objects on it particularly in the kitchen where heavy pots can slip and fall. If your tile does become cracked or chipped it will be very difficult to replace it without having to dig up the rest of the floor so tread carefully on your new ceramic tile floor.

Decorate Like You See in Magazines & Books

April 17, 2007 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

Have you ever wondered why interior designers place slippers on the ottoman in magazine photos? They do it to make the staged setting look as if it’s a lived-in room. Pictures and illustrations in decorating books, magazines, and other advertisements are designed to sell a product or an idea.

But what’s missing in the staged rooms of most interior design books and magazines? People.

When it comes to decorating your own your home, forget the empty rooms you see in the magazines and books. You should design your rooms as backdrops for the people who use and live in those spaces. In order to best utilize the spaces in your home, try these simple techniques:

Leave empty space. Empty space gives you breathing room and allows the most important items in the room to shine, which are the people!

Use small patterns on walls and furniture. Avoid large-patterned fabrics and wallpapers with designs larger than your head. Huge florals will interfere with the appearance of the people in the room. You don’t want to have to compete with bold patterns behind your face. Patterns on sofas and chairs that clash with clothing will also make you and your guests feel uncomfortable.

Use colors that complement people. Finding the right colors to complement your skin and eyes deserves planning. Most people look great when surrounded by color. For light skin colors, use yellows, pinks, and beiges. For darker complexions, yellows, olives, and tans can make people stand out. Since most people no longer have bright white in their eyes, avoid pastels that are whiter than the white in your eyes.

Add textures that feel good to the touch. Support your sense of touch by adding textures that are nice to caress. You don’t have to touch velvet to sense its softness, and soft textures like chenille and satins will visually support your feeling of being pampered, as well.

Arrange accessories to shore up emotions. In one of my rooms, I arranged my mantle accessories to make a statement, and it looked great in photographs, but after analyzing why the mantle didn’t seem to smile, I realized that it wasn’t personal. When I filled it with Mili fiori lamps, crystal candlesticks, and antique vases, the space looked great, but it really began to smile when I added a Mexican Rose rock under the painting.

Think comfort before pretense. Just because a sofa or chair looks fabulous doesn’t mean the piece is comfortable. Remember, when you walk around a showroom, sitting down on any piece feels good, but in order to truly test a piece of furniture, you need to sit on it for a long time, until you feel totally rested. Only then will you be able to feel the real support and comfort level of that piece.

Remember, your home is a place for people, and when you and your guests look and feel great in your home, you can be sure that you’ve designed a great setting; one that far outshines the staged sets you’ll see in magazines and books.

Joy to you!

Design Tips for a Spacious and Family-friendly Living Room

April 16, 2007 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

The living room is such an important room of the house. This is where you receive your guests. These are some of my ideas for decorating the living room. In fact, the trend these days is to have a large room where all the different common activities like dining, working, playing, studying, TV watching can be done altogether. The idea is to get premium use of space available. Ideally, these different functions can be separated by dividing the areas with cabinets, shelves or partition. Another trick is to change the floor covering too. The living room is a busy area so it is crucial to allow wide pathways for easy entry into and out of the living room. You want to be practical too. Get a carpet that is easy to clean and maintain. I recommend getting leather sofa sets as they are easy to maintain.

You want furniture to be flexible and multi functional too. Look for tables with storage space. Instead of leaving your keys, wallets and mobile phone on the table you can keep them in the drawers. It prevents cluttering. Look for sofas and couches which have drawers to keep your stuff. Choose storage chests that can used as tables, storage or seating. Save space by using storage units that come with sliding doors. Storage units with doors or drawers require space when you open the cabinet doors or drawers. Create the illusion of space by getting small furniture which makes the living room much bigger. Put decorative items such as books on open storage shelves, glass cabinets and tables. Make sure they are arranged in a neat and clean manner as they are visible. Non decorative and unsightly items should be stored in closed storage units like cupboard and chest with drawers. Find light and versatile furniture which is easy to move around.

For example, consider using steel and plastic chairs instead of wooden chairs. Look out for stools which are smaller and are stackable too. Are children playing and also studying in this area? Get them open storage boxes and baskets to keep their toys and books in them. What else can you do to make cleaning of the living room easier? Simple, throw away all your junk and rubbish. Throw away old and unwanted newspaper, toys and books.

Use light colors for painting of your walls. This makes the room look bigger too.You want proportion in your layout of furniture. You want to be able to entertain as many guests as possible. Create several seating areas by gathering a few chairs and a small table for each seating area. Small groups of people can gather for casual chit chat and small talk. If there is only one sofa suite then only one person is the focus of attention and less participation is possible among the guests. Make sure the coffee table is within easy reach of the armchairs and sofas. Do put end tables and side tables next to chairs as well. Guests can reach their food and drinks, reading material and perhaps TV remote controls. You don’t have to incur huge expenditure to update your living room decor. One simple trick is to re-arrange your furniture and presto, it seems like a new living room. Painting fresh coat of paint is relatively cheap too.

How to Decorate Your Home and Yard for Thanksgiving

April 15, 2007 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

Although Thanksgiving usually doesn’t call for as much effort as Christmas in the decorating department, you can still spruce things up a bit for the holiday.

Yard Decor for Thanksgiving

Some of the most beautiful yard decorations are simple, while also natural in color and design. The best way to save time and effort is to blend your decor where it can accomplish the fall and Thanksgiving look and feel all at once. You probably wouldn’t want to decorate several times per year. There are many ways to decorate so that the theme of Thanksgiving is not profound, but is “understood”. The decorations can be meant for either fall or Thanksgiving, so you can decorate a little earlier and still not be too ahead of the game.

Simple and Affordable Yard Decor Ideas

To keep it simple, you can get most of the materials needed for your yard decorations by taking a walk through the woods. Gather pine combs, leaves, vines, acorns, tree limbs. Combining these items and adding a few store bought items can produce beautiful home-made decor that’s inexpensive. Some add-ins may include a bale of hay, pumpkins (large or miniature), ears of corn, squash or other colorful ornaments.

Enhance your porch or patio with some hanging decorations with fall-like scenery on them, a wind chime with colorful leaves or even a wreath with fall colors.

If you have a path leading to your door or through your yard, add some pumpkins on a stake (or turkeys) to line the pathway.

Home Decor Ideas

Create a certain mood in your home with fall or Thanksgiving aromas such as pine or pumpkin. You can use potpourri in liquid form or scented candles (in fall colors). Of course, on Thanksgiving Day, the aroma of all the cooking will probably be enough!

For the dining area, create a seasonal atmosphere with a decorative table cloth, or placemats with matching napkins.

For table decorations in each room, centerpieces with flowers or leaves are always a winner. You can often find centerpieces with very pretty fall colors in many different sizes and shapes.

If you really want to go all out in decorating, buy some welcome mats and/or runner carpets (that match your current flooring, of course) and use these only during the fall season. This is something that can quickly and easily be replaced when the Christmas season begins.

Fruit baskets are also popular for decorating, although they won’t last very long. If your family enjoys eating fruit, you can eat the fruit from the baskets throughout the week, and replace it at the end of each week with fresh fruit.

For an extra bonus, add some large walnuts or pecans to the mix.

Creating a Thanksgiving or fall theme in your home really sets the mood for the season for your family and guests. It’s a great way to bring in the Christmas season as well.

Use these tips to have fun decorating while spending less, and you’ll be able to enjoy your Thanksgiving holiday.

Natural Algae Fighters That Work

April 14, 2007 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

When the warm weather of summer finally arrives most pond owners are faced with a very common problem called pond algae. Pond algae can strike any size pond at any time, but usually a few very specific things have to be present for it to spread rapidly.

Knowing what allows algae to prosper is the first step to treating it naturally. First though, let’s make one thing clear. Algae, or it’s presence in a pond is not always bad. A little bit of it here or there is actually a positive sign that the pond is healthy and balanced. When algae takes over the pond entirely however, things are not very balanced at all.

Algae is very dependent on excessive nutrients in the water to grow. Therefore this should be your first priority…to reduce or eliminate excess nutrients in the pond. These can come from decomposing organic matter like leaves or grass clippings.

Nutrients can also come for fish waste or decomposing fish food. With these things in mind, it’s best to remove any organic matter from the pond before it starts to decay at the bottom. Skimmers can help with this in smaller ponds. Also, if you have fish, be sure to not overstock them in a smaller pond. Generally 1 inch of fish needs about 10 gallons of water to stay balanced. If your ratio is over this, you may be overstocked. Be sure to not overfeed your fish as well. Provide them enough food to consume in about five minutes time.

Pond algae also needs adequate sunlight to grow aggressively so if you can minimize exposure to the sun, this can often help.

In some cases, you can’t always keep sunlight from entering the pond or keep all the debris from settling in it. Then it’s often best to turn to other treatments or options.

In smaller ponds adding plants is a very beneficial thing to do. Surface plants like water lilies help absorb excess nutrients and also help shade the pond. Water grasses are great at helping clear a pond as well.

Since it can take up to 60% coverage of a pond’s surface to keep algae at bay, some people like to also use a natural beneficial bacteria product to help consume some of the excess nutrients and assist in the breakdown of organic matter in the pond. Bacteria and enzyme products have been proven to be one of the safest and most effective ways to keep a pond clean. There are many varieties available on the market today.

All of the methods outlined above are highly preferred over using chemicals in a pond or water garden. Chemicals come with inherent risks and also don’t help much in cleaning a pond in a natural fashion. Over the long term they can cause many more problems than then solve.

How To Choose A Comfortable Office Chair For Your Desk

April 13, 2007 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

If you don’t spend your days sitting at a desk then you really will not understand the importance of an office chair that is really comfortable. For those of us that live in front of our computers for more than forty hours every week we really understand how uncomfortable life can become when you do not have some good cushioning under our butt while we work.

We used to think of executive office chairs as only being for top level managers that made tons of money every minute of the day. But not anymore. Today even people working from home offices want to have top quality chairs for their office.

Most office chairs are made of leather because of its pliability and its ability to adjust to different temperatures. A leather chair will slowly warm up the longer you sit in it, making the chair more and more comfortable as time goes by. Another major component to executive office chairs is the wood that is used to create the base for the chair.

A good office chair will be designed to offer the best possible feel during the long duration that it is being used. Most chairs will have numerous adjustments that can change the angle and height of the chair so it can be adjusted to fit any person that sits in it.

A major down side to these office chairs is their cost. A really nice executive office chair can cost you hundreds even thousands of dollars depending on what materials it is made of. Real leather chairs are going to naturally cost more than chairs that are made from plastic. Other contributing factors to a chairs price include: the number of adjustment attachments that are included, how many wheels or legs are on the chair, and the material that is used to make the chair.

No matter what type of office chair you are considering getting, make sure you fully understand all the pluses and minuses that are associated with the chair you want. Some chairs may not seem to have any downsides, but then you get them home and realize that the chair is not nearly the chair you thought it was.

Take your time and do a little research before you just go out and buy a chair. Time spend researching the chair will likely transfer into money saved on your executive chair purchase. The Internet is a great place to look for solutions to your research dilemma, through the Internet you can find out the basic information you need to know in order to make the best possible decision for your office.

Kitchen Remodeling Checklist Are Your Prepared

April 12, 2007 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

Did you know that remodeling your kitchen is one of the most common home additions that people do these days? The kitchen is one of the hotspots of most houses. People are constantly coming in and out of the kitchen, getting food, talking on the phone and using the kitchen a socialization point of the entire house. We’ve talked to a whole bunch of contractors who’ve told us that kitchen work can be some of the most difficult yet most rewarding for both the home owner and the contractor. Let’s take a look at some of the factors you should strive for if you are seriously considering undertaking a kitchen remodeling.

1)Is your contractor reliable? I can’t count the number of friends that I have who have had problems with contractors. Kitchen remodeling is no different. If you hire a contractor to redo your kitchen, make sure they come with great references from uninterested parties. There is nothing worse than have a kitchen that is only

Fencing Options for Your Home and Property

April 11, 2007 | Category:Articles-Host | Author: admin

“Good fences make good neighbors,” wrote a beloved American poet decades ago. There is some truth in the idea that some of us function better when we know and respect common boundaries. This can be especially true when we put up fences in our lawns and around our property to keep trespassers out and the children or pets in. Still, it’s not easy choosing where to put up fencing, the type that will best fit a property, and the most effective for a particular purpose. Here are a few tips that might help as you face this particular dilemma.

1. Choose a style that meshes with your property style. For example, if your home is a Victorian, look for old-fashioned fencing designs that bring back the days of old, like a white picket style. Instead of the painted wood framework that quickly peels and can easily rot, you can now get vinyl fences that look like traditional wood but will actually hold up much longer and require little maintenance.

2. Look for fencing that will fit your property structure. For example, even if you love wrought iron spikes, they may not look that great on your country farmhouse lawn. Choose a design that flows with the overall theme of your yard or lawn. You might want to get a few sample pieces and try them in various places of your open space to see how they fit. Or check out images on the Internet and possibly drive around the neighborhood for some ideas on how to use fencing in creative ways.

3. Get the type of fencing that serves your purposes. An invisible dog fence will help to keep your pets from wandering off the premises. But it will not keep other dogs or animals from approaching your dog. You may need a chain link fence to prevent other kids or pets from wandering over your lawn and perhaps doing damage or causing problems by digging up a flowerbed or chasing your cats.

4. Decorative fencing adds attractive accents. Consider adding a wooden rail fence in just a corner of your yard as a focus point, perhaps accented by clusters of daffodils or mums. A low vinyl picket fence makes a nice border along the side of the garage or shed. Use your creativity while shopping at lawn and garden stores or browsing catalogs to select a useful or attractive fence that will add to your property’s value.

Fences can be functional or aesthetic in nature; it’s really up to you. There are numerous styles, materials, and designs available today, and you can shop online if you aren’t able to get out to the stores. Fencing all or part of your property can help to protect it, discourage intruders, and make it attractive simultaneously. Don’t overlook fencing options when planning next year’s lawn or garden.
